Description Dear dA staff/Wix,

Using heavily stylized wings/art as a way to teach people in deviantART community (mind you, a large art site, not kindergarten drawing lesson) how to draw wings in the first place is WRONG.

At first you need to learn from real animals/birds how wings really work - how they're built, how they work in order to let the creature actually fly, how the muscles connect, how the joints rotate/bend, how the wing featheres are layered etc and only after that you can start stylizing your art however you please. Starting to learn from heavily stylized art, video games or heck knows what is not a good way to start (trust me, I made the same mistake when I started to draw and I really wish someone had told me back then, I'd be so much better at drawing them by now).

Please look up real life animal/bird references, dig out as many tutorials as you can, see how a lot of other various artists interpret them, learn, practice, think until you understand how they work before you try to make a functional wing out of a mere triangle.

I know I still have quite some bit to learn before I feel comfortable with wings and this quick tutorial isn't perfect but next time you try to teach the community something new please make sure you start from the right direction OR actually mention that the used tutorial is heavily stylized and not anatomically correct.

Sincerely,
One slightly salty Tri

So, I made a really quick sketchy basic tutorial on how I plan out wings in response to this nonsense Creature Week: Deviously Fun Daily Prompts

If it was mentioned somewhere that this is a stylized tutorial or just "How this artist draws wings" I would've been completely OK with that. The tutorial I made might come across as rude and aggressive but just because the event journal made it sound like they're actually trying to teach stuff without breaking down the basic fundamentals at first, which is crucial when starting to learn a new thing. I'm not saying Abigail's way is completely wrong, it's wrong to start teaching wing anatomy based on that to millions of dA users, who are most likely beginners when it comes to drawing.
Perhaps this comment of mine explains it a bit better

(Also sorry for being so quiet lately, life's been keeping me busy but I will get back to decent drawing soon enough o/)

PLEASE DO NOT DIRECTLY COPY/TRACE STUFF FROM THE TUTORIAL, MAKE SURE TO LOOK UP VARIOUS OTHER TUTORIALS IN ORDER TO LEARN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN IN ORDER TO IMPROVE AND BECOME BETTER ARTIST <3
