Description Spunky Sparkler comes out of retirement to try to help rescue an old friend and ends up running into an enormous mech! Sparkler certainly felt a little overmatched! Unfortunately for her, despite a valiant fight, she soon found herself grappled, nano-tech generated metal mittens and a metal mask further blocking her plasma-powers. She then is taken to the patron of the metal monstrosity... who decides that a few things need to change... the metal faceplate is replaced by an improvised cloth gag, still effective at blocking the plucky mutant's plasma breath.

I love comic book DiD mentality: cloth will stop plasma!

It's "Black Canary syndrome." Her sonic "Canary Cry" could knock down or punch a hole in a concrete wall. But, somehow, it could be stopped by a handkerchief tied over her lips. One of the many reasons I LOVE comic books....

Well there's a reason for that- Sparkler creates her plasma by a fragile magnetic field projected from "pointy" extremities- this field accelerates air around it until it reaches such a high speed it converts to plasma, then she can hurl it, so she doesn't generate plasma, she generates magnetics, and that field is incredibly fragile. And technically she shoots the plasma from her tongue-tip, so keeping her mouth closed prevents it, too. She'd have to blast through her own face in that case!

In Black Canary's case, that's because the handkerchief either kept her lips closed or interrupted the resonance frequency generated by her canary cry. Stuff a handkerchief in the end of a trumpet and it won't sound right, either!

Always happens with mouth-based powers.
