Description There I was, working thru deviations of all of the artists I follow on DA. When suddenly I came upon an OC sketch by ~spiderguile He has this character he created called "Sharp". It reminded me of a cross between Grifter and the Gray Fox cyber ninja from Metal Gear Solid. Two characters I've loved for years! So beyond the awesome linework, I was immediately drawn to it.

One thing led to another and I ended up laying down some colors. I didn't have much experience painting latex and shiny stuff at the time. Which means I immediately jumped onto Google and pulled some Catwoman and Sage reference (can you think of better examples?), then went to town. Turned out better than I thought.

Enjoy!

I thought he looked pretty cool too, that's why I had to color it.

I believe he's an Original Character and not associated with any large publishers.

You can ask  he's the one that drew it.

It'd be my pleasure.

If you see me add some favs to my "Lines" folder, those are usually the ones I think should have some color. So I may pull a few from your gallery for practice.

This is awesome dude, the technique you've used on the armor looks amazing. And the use of the yellow back light is a really nice touch, adds some mood.

Thanks bud. I was kinda surprised by this one myself. I couldn't stop staring at it after I finished.

Yeah I figured a warm light would offset all the cool colors the guy has. Turns out it worked perfectly!

This looks great, I want to learn to color my drawings like that.

TrinityMathews In reply to MindHierarch [2012-05-07 01:54:49 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

The way I learned was watching a bunch of Livestreams from the colorists here on DA. Then I would find some lines to try the techniques out on.

A few of the colorists I watched and gleaned tricks from were

Also I would recommend the books "Hi-Fi Color for Comics" and it's sequel "Master Digital Color". If you follow the steps and go thru all the assignments in those two books, you should be as good, if not better than me.
