the strangest fact is that this was my first drawing that sort of awakened the artist inside me. Before I never did anything serious, not even the one art class i had to take when i was a sophomore in high school.
I bought paint about 4 months later after doing a lot of drawings; wanting to explore a little more. This was, errrr only about a year ago as I bought the paint after christmas.
I'm going to be posting some more of those drawings because they have been giving me a lot of insight into how my art has changed, which in many ways is less intricate, less illusionary, although on the positive side, I've learned HOW to paint and do some things much better.
So I'm exploring these older drawings to get back in touch with the "fresh artist" mind, more naive in ways, that I was using to make my new stuff better.
I'll be posting some more of these 1st drawings soon. But this was the VERY 1st!

That's really awesome. So it was kind of an enlightenment you found in creating that. I have never been much of a painter but when I do I get really into it and start creating something abstract and crazy right out of my head. Like the one of the fish and the cubes that me and Kaine painted with acrylic and highlighter markers and sharpie, was straight out of my brain onto paper. Haha. This one here. [link]

hmm that's interesting. Most of my stuff starts with an initial idea that is transformed by misplaced pencil or paint marks and A.D.D. into something very different. So usually my stuff has gone under multiple evolutions due to not being an amazing artist naturally, having little patience at times and a wandering attention span of a mouse....basically almost all of my paintings or drawings were created unintentionally, in a way. It's kind of odd, and at times, not unlike inkblots you'd see on a Rorschach test, I end up changing a painting in it's entirety and can't find a finishing point. Finished is when I'm sick of changing it and have created my own meaning for it.
I need to go through some of the pics I have of my 'finished' paintings when they were uninfished and still evolving. Study them in their change from initial purpose (if there was one) to finished purpose and try to figure out why I continually changed them, etc etc...[remember, I only started like a little more than a year ago. so I don't really know how to do art at all haha. My college, the ideal college for popping out conservative idealistic traditionalists has but 1 painting class a semester--something like 20 spots---fills up everytime. So basically I'd like to learn how to draw, paint, etc..bc I'm just wingin it]

It is naive work with the central point of composition dead center. This is usually a deal killer for a work of art. The drawing facility itself is not that mature or developed. And through all of this there is something very alive and - well -weird out about it.
Believe me this is a compliment. Paul Cezanne struggled with facility his whole life and was the most influential painters of all modern art.
There is a cult of virtuosity that I find to be shallow and unimportant. It is the intensity of expression that is most important - with a dash of facility.
I think you have a natural gift as an artist. You are still finding it and I suspect you will do some very brilliant work shortly. keep studying, working and loving it!!

hey man. That's exactly what I wanted to get for feedback. Ive been trying to ask people to be specific and give me an actual critique because it builds bonds; giving me a better idea of who you are and what both of our minds together produce. This combination of ideals, knowledge in different areas, attitudes, personalities, etc is what we need to look to build unless we want to keep pretending that people clicking "add to your favorites" constitutes an art community.
you were completely real with that critique. I respect that quite a bit, AND, my respect shoots further up because it was incredibly accurate. (i've never taken an art class outside of the freshman high school one)...and I have always been doodling, drawing, etc, (basically creating art) ever since I can remember having the motor skills and coordination to doodle and try to draw dinosaurs and shit haha. Baseball took over my life in high school and art fell out. You know, the whole being popular in high school adolescent bullshit haha.
This drawing is actually the first thing I drew with conscious intent (not just doodles on my notes in class) on drawing and creating something you could call art. Consequently, I obsessed over it for about 2 weeks. It's quite complex, although, yes completely naive. It was my first stab and I still consider it to be one of the most complex pieces I've ever made. In fact, I should be actually studying how I did it because I couldn't tell you. I had a process and methods that probably have some sort of name or recognition in the world of educated artists.
Thanks again for the great critique. I hope there will be further dialogs, critiques, comments, or just random facts that we may want to share with someone, whether relating directly to a piece of art or having nothing to do with art.
community, right? - peace light and love

thanks for the comment, I am extremely happy you see the beauty that I see in this drawing. I know its a little complicated and all that content can be easility missed if your a p.o.s. and look for 5 seconds and leave. I'm glad you liked it, is it now a favorite????

This is such a strange and confusing piece, it's hard to know where to look and how to start going about even trying to look at it. It's just.. way too complicated for me.

Easy for you to say.
Nah, I try to look at most images like that. It's very abstract. I don't think it being complicated hinders it in any way, it just makes it a lot more interesting to look at.
