Lantern Sprout

"The Lantern Sprout offers two helpful qualities; It glows a pathway to safety should you need guidance, or it offers medicinal properties for wounds in need of disinfectant. Choosing one will eliminate the other, be sure of what you seek and this fungus will provide"

Species classification : Bioluminescent Fungus
Medicinal Properties : Antibacterial and antiseptic properties released when boiled with hot water [Either by ingesting whole after boiling or inhaling steamed fumes] Effective in treating open wounds and burns, and can be ingested safely to sooth sore throats. Can be crushed after steaming and spread over wounds.

Description
If you find yourself lost in the woods in the darkest of nights, you may be fortunate enough to come across the Lanturn Sprout. Harmless in nature, with a seemingly odd ability to empathise with a lost traveller, this mushroom will appear in large numbers to light a pathway to civilization or water. The Lanturn Sprout also offers medicinal properties should you need it, however picking just one of these mushrooms will cause the rest of the path to vanish. The traveler must be wary in deciding how they will use this fungus' ability best.

Details
- The fungus will not open it's bells unless the night is at it's darkest and a lost or unwell traveler passes by. During full moons, sunlit hours or traveler-less nights, the fungus remains in a sleep-like state, with it's bell closed and unlit. It is hard to spot in this state.
- It is still unknown what allows the fungus to illuminate during the night or how it can tell when a traveler is in need of it's help.
- It always grows in large numbers, suggesting underground root connections. Plucking one fungus from this colony will kill the rest.
- Commonly found on the forest floor, but can also grow on tree trunks and plant stems, rocky cliff edges and the banks of rivers and ponds.
- Does not prefer any particular climate or season.

Chosen Design Elements
I wanted to design a simple and helpful fungus that could be extremely beneficial, yet contain a catch. Thus, the Lantern Sprout has a simple bell with no distinctive features other than the fact that it illuminates at night. I was inspired by the underground rooting system bamboo sprouts stem from, and the idea to give it antibacterial properties is influenced by my current flu :'''D
