Description

It was supposed to be the “End of History”, where the world would unite under the banner of liberal democracy and the free market. A long peace would begin, guaranteed by the USA in what the geopolitics wonks called a “Pax Americana.” That was what the 90s were supposed to be, but instead the world spun apart, the predictions of a bright future faltering in nearly all respects. History came back with a vengeance and liberal democracy receded. The market, however, would become freer than ever with corporations becoming more and more akin to states. Cabals of intelligence spooks and cold, hard economic reality would push the States to the brink of collapse, meanwhile the Soviets got a new lease on life with the aid of the Euros. The Middle East was engulfed in nuclear fire, destroying the most reliable source of oil that world society had become so dependent on. And all of this is merely an outline of the major events, not even getting into the explosion in cybernetics and the rise of modern nomadism. The 90s of reality were a decade of drastic and often cruel change, but perhaps the dawn of a new decade, a new century, a new millennium would offer some sort of respite.

It did not. The chaos continued, and even now in 2021, the semblance of a status quo that the EC and the myriad of corps built seems to be collapsing in on itself. From the US to Africa, the state appears to be regaining its power, meanwhile high up in orbit the Highriders seek out independence from the Earth itself, no matter the cost. The winds of change howl.

First time putting together a map, so apologies if it is low quality (and for the brevity of the write up, I meant it to be much longer). This is my own take on the world of Cyberpunk 2020, which somewhat adheres to what is said in the sourcebooks.
