Description
"The natives of Skull Island appear to engage in a daily ritual prayer, worship to the beasts of the land. A coping mechanism to life upon this godforsaken rock, perhaps. Hierarchies of monsters representing a great pantheon. One of the sea, one of the rivers, one of sky, two of the forest, two of the mountains, one of the caves. The one who appears to be the "king" of the gods appears to be the beast they call "Kong". There are entire cliff-faces awash with artworks of Kong's victories against vanquished foes.ΒA two-headed bird creature conquered in a thunderous storm, a sphinx-like chimera with three different heads, some sort of rock golem toppled from the peak of a volcano, and the largest tapestry, Kong leading his kind to battle against a vast sea dragon, its body alight with the strange glowing ink the natives use. If this were anywhere else I would have written these off as mere fancies, but there is no doubt in my mind that such events truly conspired. But it is little wonder that this "King" Kong would be revered above all, for his thunderous roar echoing for miles from the top of the Skull Mountain could only be understood as an absolute declaration of power.Β
But I can only wonder, how long will it be that the realms of men and monsters remain apart? Certainly, Skull Island cannot be the only place on Earth that the march of time has forgotten. Perhaps it is that many pockets like these exist unknown across the world. I fear the period approaches that the two worlds can no longer remain separated, and in this clash, one will surely destroy the other."

Pretty interesting stuff. You really are crafting you own little world here. More power to ya, it is a wonderful job so far. I like that you have done something different and wholly creative with the Skull Crawlers here and made them to be something more than just fodder. Great work on the image too!

That Thunderbird reference is interesting, if it be so indeed (might also be a reference to the Gaw). The chimera and rock golem are tougher to discern for me, though like the two-headed thunderous bird they might be amalgamations of both real-world mythological creatures and fictional ones, like the whole assortment of Kong: The Animated Series creatures. My bet is that this volcanic rock golem is Chiros, however Iβll need to look into this three headed chimera more.... As for the vast sea dragon, I wouldβve initially bargained on Godzilla, but I feel more inclined to say it is the Great Sea Serpent from King Kong Escapes, or even Manda for that matter if youβve decided to meld the two together, since they essentially fill the same archetype.
Anyways, much applaud for the work and effort, and creativity, put into fleshing out this kaiju-verse!!! Canβt wait for the next entry!

Quite the reference trove here. Lemme see if I can get them.
The two-headed bird is probably Gaw. The sphinx chimera is much more puzzling. I wanna say Black Moth, but she doesn't have three heads...hmm...puzzling. The Rock Golem...I wanna say...Chiros from that weird Kong show where he's a half-human clone. And the "vast sea dragon"...hmmm...I'd say Godzilla, but Kong leading his whole species against a singular kaiju, even one like Godzilla, seems a bit overkill.Β
I also have to say, this illustration is really astounding, all those Skullcrawlers cresting over the mountain, the lighting, the whispy fire, and especially Ramarak's sheer size and clear malice. I simply can't imagine the amount of effort that went into this, and I have to say it's really payed off. Probably my favorite FOM piece yet.Β

Further research has not yielded very many results as to what the sphinx chimera is supposed to be. The only sphinxes I can dig up are the unused one from Godzilla: Unleashed and Norzugg from the 98 Godzilla show, neither of which have three heads. And the glowing sea dragon...is it Godzilla? I'm really not sure.Β

They weren't really meant to be mysteries. It's as obvious as it's supposed to be.
Well, except the sphinx one, it will be established much later (it's a bit of a decomposite character, but indeed based on a real concept).

or maybe it could be the serpent with the toothed saw-face that was originally going to be the main villain before the Skullcrawlers were put instead.

Let's see.....
Sea Dragon: Definitely Godzilla
Rock Golem: Obsidius
Chimera: ???????????
Two-Headed Bird: doesn't ring any bell unfortunately, although the "conquered in a thunderous storm" is particularly noteworthy to me. Possible link to a certain 3 headed-wyrm?

HOLY MOTHER OF CRAP, this is amazing!
Also, I see you've teased the existance of seven(!!!) giant daikaiju including Kong himself living on this island. Must I say, that is one hell of a roster.

There are actually a few more than that, but they don't quite fit on the environmental pantheon quite the same.
And I'll spoil it right now, but one of them is (er, was) Kumonga. As previously implied, she was born on the Skull Islands, and is her species native range. Right now the population of her species on the archipelago is without their queen and a rival predator species rules the jungles in their place (I'll leave you to guess who that is).
Perhaps she'll return to reclaim her throne some day?

cue the Lion King but with a giant spider.
Might I ask, when the Skull Devil rose up from the caverns, why was Kong the only kaiju to be on the scene to battle the impending invasion. From what the Skull Crawler entry says, it seems there was an epic "war" between the Skull Crawlers and the native kaiju. Did the remaining kaiju from the first attack not detect the Skull Devil rising from the earth, or did they and by the time they arrived, Kong had already slain the beast (and the humans left the island)?

TrollMans In reply to 105697 [2020-01-16 06:49:43 +0000 UTC]
Mostly the second one, since it was a few hours at most between the time the Skull Devil rose from the earth to its final slaying by Kong. As well, the first war when the Skullcrawlers arrived was mostly Skull Devils; this is just a skirmish by comparison.Β
Also, the various kaiju of the islands aren't usually allies (most are actually rivals or enemies); they don't jump to the call at every opportunity.

Ooh, hell yeah! Canβt wait to see the other gods! Apart from them, what are the monsters mentioned here (IE the glowing dragon, the three-headed Chimera, the golem ETC ETC) based on?
π: 0 β©: 1
TrollMans In reply to DinoDragoZilla17 [2020-01-02 20:34:10 +0000 UTC]
All of them, except for the chimera, which is a rogues gallery transplant of sorts, are based on some prior existing Kong enemy.

DinoDragoZilla17 In reply to TrollMans [2020-01-02 20:56:50 +0000 UTC]
Ooh, the only one I can really guess at is that the golem is based on the golems Bar-Atu mentions in Kong: Gods of Skull Island, who are the other vanquished foes of Kong?

I would presume the glowing dragon is none other than Godzilla, the glowing paint being mistaken as an artistic artifact, rather than a reflection of the actual charged up spines.
