"The molek (Diablopterus rapax) is an archetype dracopterid species in outward appearance, reaching the dimensions of a crow, with membranous wings that are large for its size. However despite its diminutive scale, it is a ferocious predator and extremely aggressive to any creature, large or small, that trespasses upon their nests. Inhabited molek colonies are very easy to distinguish from abandoned ones, as the foul sulphurous odour will become apparent from quite a distance, often before the nests themselves come in sight.

Moleks will defend their nests with their lives, and in large enough number can overwhelm and even kill almost any potential interloper. Human fatalities are generally uncommon, but have occurred. Therefore it is preferable to avoid molek colonies if at all possible, and most trails marked on maps of the corpse-isle have taken these into account. The moleks themselves have a very effective warning system to those brave or foolish enough to encroach upon their homes: if you can hear the whistles emitting from the holes, you've come too close."
