Description
"Forests on R'lyeh are created not of leaves, sap, and bark, but of flesh, blood, and skeleton. Hundreds of millions of years ago, a few species of marine invertebrates acquired the ability to derive energy from sunlight through endosymbiosis with photosynthetic dinoflagellates, or through horizontal gene transfer from algae, and these, along with rangeomorphs, make up the majority of R'lyehian flora. Many species are fast growing, reproduce quickly, and highly adaptable to the unpredictable climate and geological activity of R'lyeh, having outed plants as the primary autotrophic organisms. Many visitors of R'lyeh have fallen victim to the misconception that the flora must be like plants at least, and find the serious or fatal consequences of this error. Having evolved from animals, numerous species still retain carnivorous tendencies and limited mobility; more specific groups of planimal retain stinging nematocytes or shearing mandibles for both predation and defence, ranging in severity from mild nuisances to truly horrifying creations of evolution. Any explorer venturing into the nightmare corpse-isle must be wary that the brush itself does not consume them."

Actually, they're animals.

I only just noticed the little pterosaur-thing crawling into the Nepenthes-like structures on that plant in the middle. That's a nice little touch of ecological interaction.
Also, which creatures are descended from rangeomorphs?

Nice! I've always thought it would be interesting to imagine what sort of strange life might live on R'lyeh. I like that the indigenous "flora" is terrestrial, but has evolved into strange, alien-looking forms. I'm particularly fond of that creature in the upper right that appears to have been parasitized by an anemone-plant like an ant infected with Cordyceps.
This is such an inspiring piece. I think I may someday end up designing my own version of R'lyehian life.

I don't what is cooler, either Ultrozoic, Diyu, Isle mundo perido, or R'lyeh
