That's really good for your first photoshop work! And "I just can't wait to be king." Is totally Raito..XD You are really good at drawing the lions in the lion king style.

Good luck in the contest!

s-sure...
be nice of you can ;
maybe you can tell me what tools to use next time. actually, i used paintshop and i don't know if you know anything about that but, for instance, i couldn't get the smudge tool to work...and i still will never figure out layers Oo;;

Well one thing I noticed was the thin white between the lineart and colors. So I'm not sure how you colored it, but this is what I do:

You first have your lineart on it's own layer and your colors go on a layer below the lineart. You use the wand tool to select the area. Then under the menu do Select>Modify> Expand > 1-3px. And then fill the area, it should then go under the lineart a bit so you don't get that small white area.

tronnie In reply to danzr4ever [2007-08-16 15:48:35 +0000 UTC]

its probably because i didn't redo the lineart again on the tablet, just scanned it in left it at that. because i can't imagine being able to do decent lineart on a comp...
when i was filling the color, i just made the tolorence high so there would be less white, but i couldn't do it too high b/c the lines weren't solid black and it filled the whole thing.
but thanks a lot, i'll try that next time and see if i can manage it ^^

If your lineart has a white background, the easiest method to get rid of it is to change it's layer mode to multiply. The option is in a drop down menu in your layer menu (f7). Then you can make a new layer (layer > New > Layer) and move it under your lineart. Instead of using the fill bucket try using the wand selection tool (w) instead. You can make it's tolorence high too. The benefit, is that you can expand your selection by a pixel, so that it is now under your lineart and there is no longer that white margin.

cool! thanks a lot ^^
questions:
how come when i try some tools, it tells me i need to change the type of layer to art...something? and won't let me do it until i change it.
and when you say use the wand to select, you mean select the area i'm gonna color? can it do that well enough to get rid of the white? is it the same as the lasso?

danzr4ever In reply to tronnie [2007-08-17 03:58:32 +0000 UTC]

Yes use the wand tool to select the area you are going to color. The wand tool will select just like a fill bucket tool would. If the wand tool misses an area you can do hold down shift to add additional areas. Then, you select the color, and do Alt-backspace and it will fill all the selected areas.

The lasso tool is different,you have to manually draw the area you are selecting, or the line lasso does selection by line, the magnetic lasso puts the lasso line down based on where there is strong difference in color change. I'll usually use the lasso to add (hold shift, hold alt for minus) in areas the wand tool misses.

For your first question I'm not quite sure what you are talking about. But if you use the shape tool, you have to rasterize the layer before you can start drawing on a layer with a shape in it. You can also click one of the small square icon that shows up under the the menu -file | edit|image stuff. When you scroll over it says fill pixels. Um, the same thing will happen on text layers, you can do certain edits to text layers until you convert the text to pixels.

yeah, "rasterize", i didn't know what that was, sorry.

Means you are converting that layer from vector to bitmap.

ohh *nods like i know what you're talking about* ^^ lol

danzr4ever In reply to tronnie [2007-08-20 16:13:14 +0000 UTC]

Lol. A vector image is made up out of mathematical equations, a graph with a ton of recorded points. Vector images can be resized to any size without loosing quality, because the computer simply calculates where the new key points will be and redraws the lines. Bitmap images are images composed of pixels. When you zoom in really close on say, a photograph you see a bunch of little squares of color. Those are pixels. So in photoshop, shapes and text are vector layers and need to be converted to bitmap if you want to draw on them and such.

tronnie In reply to danzr4ever [2007-08-21 01:36:46 +0000 UTC]

so the layer needs to be a bitmap before you can do anything with it?
i don't know, i'm just hoping to find someone to teach me these things now that i'm at college.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

danzr4ever In reply to tronnie [2007-08-21 02:28:14 +0000 UTC]

Yes the layer does. Because photoshop is a bitmap editing software, it's not built to deal with vectors very well.
