a fond memory; a fond memory of john’s is the time he fell of the swings when he was a child. perhaps not fun when you first hear about it, but most the kids would jump off the swing and have a lot of fun. john was always too afraid and scared and cowardly to do that, until one day he finally took a deep breath and just let go and flew in the air. he hurt his arm pretty bad, but from that moment forward he didnt let fear control him and be was more daring and lead a happier daring life.

writing prompt: My little angel (790/800)
Someone knocked on the doors. The rain was pouring and the wind was curling pine trees like they were made out of rubber. A thought passed Kaira's mind. Who would it be? In weather like this, in a place like this? This was a summer mansion far up in the mountains, far from the curious eyes. She got up to check. Before the doors, an egg found its place in a wooden basked.
"Whose thing is this!?" She shouted out into the black. No response.
* * *
"Yes, 100% serious. Someone left the egg and then vanished into the storm. Can you imagine the guy? Making a mistake and forcing other people to take care of it." Kaira spoke dramatically into the phone, while her friend answered on the other side.
"So immature. Everyone knows it belongs to the orphanage."
"Yeah, about that..."
"Kaira, I swear to the seven rings of heck, what did you do this time?"
"I mean, I couldn't leave it like that trough the night. And if you saw that rotten basked it was in you'd take the egg too. Either way, a little helper might prove to be valuable someday."

Two weeks after it hatched it was still a small fry. She decided to call him Arvid. They were resting by the fireplace. Kaira was reading another romance novel as Arvid pulled her housedress' sleeve to get attention. She replied with a grumpy look, holding her finger on the last word she read. He looked her through her eyes, directly to her soul. His eyes sparkled by the flames of fire and he murmured the cutest 'mah-mah' she has ever heard. She hugged him tightly.

"Arvid! I gotta go to the store, keep the house clean and don't let anyone in. Keep momma happy okay?" She shouted quickly before leaving the house. The town was a good drive from here, but she didn't mind leaving Arvid alone. She just wanted to be alone for some time.
She got back two hours later, to a house full of mess. Toys scattered all around the floor, milk and cereals spilled, and her new novel now in pawprints of various watercolors.
"Arvid, what did you do? What did I say!?"
"I'm sorry, I was playing and got hungry and you were away for a long ti..."
"Go to your room! Now!" She cut him off. She was furious. It took her a time to calm down.

"Mama, I'm sorry I made you mad again." Arvid showed up in a kitchen with his ears lowered. He was holding something behind his back.
Kaira was sitting at a kitchen table, chatting with her friend over the phone. "I'll call you later."
"Look, I made you this." He handed her a piece of paper.
It was a drawing of her and Arvid, having what she could only interpret as a picnic in front of the mansion. A small smile appeared on her face. "It's not half bad." She said happily, running her fingers through his hair. "You might become a talented artist in the future."
"You really think so?" His eyes lit up. It was a habit of his to look irresistible when he gets happy.
"Sure. Why not." She got back to her friend, and he rushed back to his room to develop a newfound talent.

Arvid was looking out of the car's window. The leaves on the trees were starting to turn red and the rains were more common.
"Can I open the window please?" He asked Kaira. It was the first time she agreed to take him shopping with her, and it took a lot of begging for her to accept.
"No. It's dangerous. You're still too small, you could fall off."
He didn't reply. He was too happy to see the mall his mama went to every few days. He didn't say a word until the end of the ride.
"And we're here. Stay close to me, don't talk to anyone and don't take anything without my permission. Got it?"
"Yes. Let's go Let's go Let's go!" He replied excitedly.
He was good, he behaved. At the end of the shopping, Kaira even let him pick something for himself.

A year after Arvid hatched, Kaira made him a birthday cake. Chocolate, his favorite. He loved it so much he would lick the plate after every piece. Their fridge was now filled with Arvid's drawings. The shelves had a collection of picture books among novels. He finally met mama's friend as she joined in on the birthday party. Ever since Kaira was born, she had a lot more than most of the kids. But nothing material could ever compare with the value of her little angel, Arvid.
