Description COPYRIGHT LIFTED FOR TO USE IN THEIR PROJECTS

Hey guys,
this my entry for my good friend 's contest found here:

[link]

The aim of the contest is to create a trio of legendary fakemon with the option of using the provided silhouettes for 's own upcoming creations as a reference for the design:

I used the silhouettes as a base and stuck mostly to the same shapes, though there are some slight changes to the outlines of my designs. Although they are silhouetted, I believe them to be legendary cats from their shapes so I decided to make them all Sabertooth cats to match their legendary status.

SABLAZE (Say-Blaze)
--------------------------
Derivation: Sabertooth & Blaze
Abilities: Drought
Classification: Fire Disaster Pokemon

This proud but arrogant Pokemon has long been speculated to be the cause of heat-related and fire disasters by Pokemon experts.

Reigning supreme on the land in ancient times, it was feared by the ancestors of the creatures we know of today and there is evidence that it brought fire to early man who then worshipped Sablaze as a god across many cultures.

It appears veiled in thick smoke with a smell of brimstone; its roar can cause volcanoes to rise and fireballs to rain from the sky.

Potential moves: Smokescreen, Poison Gas, Bite, Crunch, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Fire Fang, Flare Blitz, Fusion Flare, Magma Storm, Tail Whip, Slash, Growl, Roar, Will-O-Wisp

DESIGN NOTES

Sablaze was my first creation which I based on the Iberian Lynx due to the size of the ears on the silhouette. I wanted a unique colour scheme to avoid comparisons with Flareon and both my fiancee as well as the awesome suggested I use blue and grey, so this design is what I came up with. I made Sablaze's collar and leg tufts grey to suggest a smoke element associated with fire and the blue colour to hint at the center of a candle flame.

SABALUGA (Say-bla-oo-gar)
---------------------------------
Derivation: Sabertooth & Baluga
Abilities: Drizzle
Classification: Water Disaster Pokemon

This hardy and resilient Pokemon ruled the seas in ancient times, when the ancestors of today's Pokemon passed fearfully through the oceans to avoid Sabaluga's wrath.

Thought to the be the cause of floods and tsunamis by Pokemon experts today, in ancient cultures offerings were often sent out to sea to appease Sabaluga and cement safe passage across the oceans.

Its roar can cause mighty todal waves capable of drowning continents or create massive whirlpools to turn oceans into raging vortexes.

Sabaluga's body is covered with air sacs that can be inflated at will; this not only makes it appear bigger when threatened, but propels it to the surface at great speed when all of them are inflated. They are covered in a thick blubber, so they are more resilient to damage than you would think. It propels jets of water through its gills for bursts of speed when swimming.

Potential moves: Surf, Hydro Pump, Water Spout, Bite, Crunch, Octazooka, Aqua Ring, Aqua Tail, Brine, Whirlpool, Tail Whip, Slam, Body Slam, Growl, Roar

DESIGN NOTES

The fish-like tail of the silhouette is reminiscent of Vaporeon, so I again chose colour to make a different impression with Sabaluga's design. I went for a predator-like white and black of a killer whale instead and used flotation devices as a means of conveyance for the Pokemon. The general appearance of the face was based on a Hairless Sphinx cat. Oh, and to all marine biology enthusiasts out there, I know Baluga isn't a scientifically accurate term here, but hey if you're after scientific accuracy, why are you looking at fakemon?

SABERNETTIC (say-ber-net-tic)
--------------------------------------
Derivation: Sabertooth & Magnetic, pun on cybernettic)
Abilities: Magnetic Charge
Classification: Electric Disaster Pokemon

Ruling the skies in ancient times when the ancestors of modern Pokemon feared the raging storm, Sabernettic is thought to be the Pokemon responsible for devastating lightning storms by experts today.

Dashing across thunderclouds as if it was on the ground, Sabernettic moves at blinding speeds and was worshipped by cultures in ancient times to prevent them from being taken by the storm's wrath.

Its roar can summon lightning storms and tempests so powerful they can electrify nations and make it impossible to step outside without succumbing to the storm's might.

Sabernettic unleashes electric blasts of different polarities from either side of its body; by crossing these streams, it can cause explosive results.

Potential moves: Thunder, Thunderbolt, Bite, Crunch, Tail Whip, Thunder Fang, Charge, Bolt Strike, Volt Tackle, Fusion Volt, Discharge, Growl, Roar, Thunderwave

Magnetic Charge
The Pokemon with this ability will use Magnet Rise at the start of a battle, levitating it into the air with magnetic power.

DESIGN NOTES

I decided to make Sabernettic different from other electric types by using a polarty-based design on the legs; this also allowed me to incorporate a more varied use of colour than is generally used with an electric type while still keeping the same atmosphere.

Thank you for taking the time to critique, I'm pleased you like them It was a great contest and fun to take part in - the first time I'd ever based a design off a shadow. I saw them as rivals to entei, suicune and Raikou when I was designing them Sabaluga was the toughest to design because combining shark with cat is tough, but not something I've seen before in Fakemon.

Thanks again for the kind words

Well, this is my first critique, prepare for utter crap e.deviantart.net/emoticons/a/a… " width="19" height="19" alt="" title="Sweating a little..."/>

I think I'll talk about each one individually:

Sablitz- I REALLY like this design. I think the colours suit it perfectly, and the pose makes it look very powerful and majestic. I love how your shading really makes it look fluffy, and the fire effects are great as always e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Wink)"/>
Buuut now onto the not-so-goods. The tails seem uneven in places. They're supposed to be larger near the body and they get smaller towards the end, but there sees to be a few bumpy bits that kinda ruins the shape of it and makes them seem a bit flat. Also, compared to the rest of the body, they seem very thin- I think making them think and fluffy would suit it better.
This might just be me (well, most likely ) but even though the hind legs are bent, they still seem a bit small/thin compared to the front ones. Again, that's probably just me e.deviantart.net/emoticons/a/a… " width="19" height="19" alt="" title="Sweating a little..."/>
Another thing that bugs me a bit is the head (well, the ears). The ear on our right is fine, but then it just curves of into the other ear- usually the two ears are separated by the top of the head. It just looks a bit awkward, like the ear is hallway down the face.
Overall I love the design, there's just a few iggly bits with the drawing.

Sabaluga- Again, another great design. It looks like a very fearsome PokΓ©mon e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/> However, I can't really imagine the bands on the shoulders really helping much, they seem a bit out of place (the neck one seems fine though). Though, on the neck band, you've shaded along the bottom, but when the fangs appear there's a random triangle of light, which probably would have looked better if it was shaded. There also seems to be gills halfway down its body
Another thing which I don't like much are the back legs. They just seem like they go straight down with no joints (sorry if that's just the angle and I'm seeing it wrong ). I also can't see two tails make it swim very well; I think just using one would be more effective.

Sabernettic- This is a really original design, and completely unlike any other cat Fakemon I've seen before. I love all the spiky fur (especially as it's in stripes) and the game buttons are a really quirky addition. Though, like the other two, there are a couple of small things that bug me- the front legs seem a bit too close together, I think the one of our right should be moved back (along its body) slightly. The teeth also seem a bit flat, have you tried not putting shading on the top of them? That's the only way I can think of to make them seem more solid.

Well, that's my critique. As I said, it's only my first, so sorry if I'm just talking a load of bull and it's full of my opinion and not fact and whatever. Hope I've been helpful e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

Thanks very much for the critique, I appreciate you taking them time some of the details you mentioned - the two tails on sabaluga for example - I kept to remain true to the silhouettes, but I see what you mean and I shall be revisiting them in the future to make some additional improvements when I'm back with my pc thanks again!

Yes. This I approve of. Now, I am entering a.deviantart.net/avatars/n/a/n… " alt=" " title="narupit" />'s contest too, and I can give my opinion that it is very well done.

The concepts on these three cats are amazing, and the silhouettes did not hamper your design, but even made it more original. I will write what I think of each one of these felines.

Sablitz:A very fierce look on its face, Sablitz shows the majesty and power of the flames. a.deviantart.net/avatars/t/i/t… " alt=" " title="Tigrite" />'s idea was genius, adding blue and grey adds to the originality to its concept. The ruffled fur makes him look wild and untamed, and it completely fits with the theme. The flame effect is also very well done.

Sabaluga: The flotation devices immediately caught my eye. It was a great idea to add that concept for it to be more agile and aquatic. The color scheme is excellent, reminding one of the world's biggest marine predators. The body looks a lot like a fish body, however I think that its body caves in too much at the area of its belly.

Sabernettic:What caught my attention here was the video game button paws. Not what you would expect from an ancient feline cat, but maybe video games were inspired from his paws? e.deviantart.net/emoticons/n/n… " width="21" height="15" alt="" title="Nana, look what I have and you dont!"/> As for the color scheme, I think it is fitting, though it is rather repetitive after seeing so much Pokemon and fakemon with those colors. As for the tails, the plug design idea is very well developed and done.

In overall, these three ideas are very well done and have concepts that I wouldn't even had thought of. However, be careful on their appearance. I find that the eyes are really quite the same. Also, I know there's the name 'Saber' in each one of these, to remind it looks like the saber-toothed tiger (or cat), but maybe you should've made the teeth look different a little? Otherwise, these designs are great. Good luck on the contest. Though there's still my entry to watch out for... a.deviantart.net/avatars/k/i/k… " alt=" " title="kiralaughplz" />

Thanks so much for the critique as always, and I am overjoyed that I have crept so close to the all-star fives

Sabaluga's belly critique has been taken on board, I was going for a combination of fish and cat, but I think you're correct that it should be a bit more buldging to take advantage of the whale nature.

Funnily enough, sabernettic's video game elements were almost a happy accident. I designed them as positive and negative signs, but when shading they took on a more video game appearance, so I intentionally kept it as a little nod to the viewers

I did consider making the teeth different for each one, with Sabernettic's being lightning-bolt shaped, etc but decided it may detract from the generally busy details. It will be something to look more into for possible future versions the eyes were intentionally similiar to show the relationship between the three, but sometimes these things work and sometimes they don't! I'll take the critique onboard as always though, thanks for taking the time!

I'll be looking forward to your entry too, and good luck with it!

'Course you would be close to all-five stars

Be careful not to make Sabaluga's belly TOO big either, we don't want him overweight.

Accidents can sometimes lead to good things

Yeah, I understand how you thought, but, as you say, sometimes great ideas just don't work out. Still, you did a good job on them.

Thanks! I'll be starting them after Christmas.
