I like the idea, but images taken by Hubble are NOT stock. FAQ #8: What does deviantART consider to be Art Theft?

I recently got into a huge argument with my girlfriends uncle about this topic. I have no belief in gods and tend to use my common sense and good judgment to steer a safe course through this messed up reality. People murder people over beliefs that are obsolete and outdated...instilling fear and hate in people for control and financial gain.
I get "judged" by xians all the time for the music and artwork that I like to enjoy.

logically, you shouldn;t let the existence of God be determined by the actions of people. That doesnt make sense. That's like saying peace doesnt exist because people do bad things in it's name. People are just people. and we manipulate everything. not just God. That intellectually to me is a pretty dumb reason to think there's no God. :\ though I could care less if you do, I just think that's dumb.

Question - what is this supposed to look like? Because it kinda looks like a nebula in which matter was ejected in two directions in a wide-angle spray as opposed to a narrow jet.
Awesome, yes. And I'll stop before I get to religious stuff - no need to offend people.

Perhaps learn what an atheist actually is first? The only thing the defines an atheist is that we don't believe in any gods. That is it. It does not automatically mean we worship science, believe in the Big Bang, or think everything is the result of an "accident". It is also extremely insulting to imply that we do not/cannot appreciate beauty because we do not accept your, or any, gods.

To be an atheist isn't to say "It's an accident." We atheists simply say "We don't believe in God." That's the only thing we can agree on amongst one another. Whether we came by accident is a whole different story. That's scientific stuff. Plus, you can't just say there is a God, without giving proof for that.

All Atheism details is that there is no god or gods. Whether or not people believe it's "An accident" is relative. Mostly it's scientific extremists that advertise "accident" to explain that which they can't explain.

Fair enough. Just brace yourself for when someone comes along to say "Belief doesn't equal Fact".

Mhm, I'm ready for it. But then again, science isn't solid either. We once thought the world was flat and that medicine was magic.

I wouldn't use that argument, seeing as both came to a sturdy reliable conclusion of Fact.

Maybe some people think they have fact, but it's all rather opinionated. This is nothing more than my opinion, my view on the world. I believe that atheists should think about the aesthetics of nature and space in terms of why it's so incredibly beautiful without anyone's signature.

The idea that you think of what Atheists "Should" do is biased and close-minded. Just as every religious person may come to the conclusion that they are religious, every atheist has done also. Even an ignorant atheist - who doesn't think about it, full stop - can be compared to someone born into an extreme religion, with no outside experience allowing them to extend their belief. Atheism does not take the absolute rejection of reasoning behind the beauty of nature and so on. It just means there is no belief to the existence of these "Gods". I personally am Atheist in the explicit sense. I believe everything in life is tangible, and thus open to observation and eventually explanation, be it in this lifetime or generations after. However, the only landscape so intangible for us, yet promising of a power equal to that desired of gods, is the human mind. The power to identify what is beautiful and to process ideas, to create - If there is any divine power, I believe that is the only thing that comes close. Gods and religion could be a way of explaining these properties. Viewing the galaxies as they are might be some physical representation of our consciousness displayed in the stars. We of all creatures understand that there are infinite possibilities.
So, I guess just understand the various positions before thinking what others should think, it's rude, and in history many people were murdered using that as justification - no offence.

It is also important to remember that even in very recent history many people have been murdered using materialistic views as their justification. Slaughters under Hitler, Stalin and Mao all fall under such a category. Pointing out one side without giving due respect to the other isn't really being fair and another form of close-mindedness. People who will go that far will use whatever they have as their excuse, neither the religious or irreligious have a higher ground to look down on the other over that.

Interesting thought. I do believe that people should question everything before coming to a conclusion, but I also believe some questions cannot be answered. My reason for doing this is that I have friends who are atheists and are also horribly depressing and have no concept of beauty whatsoever. This is for them. I'm tired of hearing them whine about the empty purposelessness of the world just because they can't see the beauty and purpose in it. I think people should consider the beauty, that's just how I think. Whether they actually do or not is up to them, but in truth I see nothing for them in doubting the existance of a creator.

I can understand why they may irritate you, but I still say that's no excuse to take them as an example for all of Atheism. If it's really just for them, then a 'motivational poster' isn't the way to go - what it will do is fuel more ignorance into the beliefs of others, or if you will - atheist-hate. An educated opinion is far better than an ignorant assumption. Tonnes of religious people attack atheists without understanding the position, which provokes negative attitudes towards religion and it goes on and on in a vicious cycle. Now religious people and atheist seem to hate each other without understanding each other's position. It's pathetic. The least you can do is realise that atheism is a state of belief, just as is religion - It's a belief you don't like - Creating material that many people can manipulate to fuel their offences just aggravates the issue.
Just a thought. My main tiff is when someone says or does something without thinking about it first. Your friends may say or do things you don't like, but they are no example for an entire state of belief.

That's the difference between time and eternity. God exists in a place where time can't touch. Therefore, he has no beginning and no end.
