1.ideas
2.knowledge (u must need to find the knowledge according to what you like to be)
3.work hard especially noticing the art and style u love and try to understand how to do it, it's like reverse engineering but it's worth your time I can garantee

also you need to know what art style you would like to do such the field of manga you need not to focusing on anatomy a lot but instead the story

but if you prefer doing painting then first of all learn the basic of anatomy cuz it is a must > < even I didn't like it either lol

now as I mention, it's quite a description how to
now get into your point as if you want to do the bg, there are many things u can do

1.imagine 2.reference 3.mixed both 1+2
I also searched most of the information I need to learn on the internet

this helped me most (information from internet) you need to find things according too what you like but if you prefer something like me as a mangaka type in Japanese style then tell me ^^

Mostly it would be Mangaka style, I took drafting but that delt more with blueprints.
