well, the couple decides who's the "carrier" and who's the "giver" (aka mom and dad respectively), and so the carrier gets pregnant, just like the canon Rose Quartz. The only difference is that in this headcanon, none loses their physical form.
Let's say the DNA of both gems mix and melt together into a complete new gem type inside of the carrier gem (like how gemstones change their quimical components when they fuse), But it needs to be formed into a nutrient gem, so it's like this shards inside of a geode, that changes into these cut and faceted gemstones as we know in real life.
So-
Uterus = Geode
Sperm = DNA of the giver
Ovary = DNA of the carrier
zygote = Shards inside of the geode
Fetus = Formed Gemstone inside of the geode
