Yet another stunning piece. The colors are subtle, yet impactful, with the lighting used to great effect, especially on his front arm and face. The pose looks natural, and the detail is, as always, amazing. I especially appreciated the texture given to his pants.
For me, this sits squarely in the space between a picture and a painting. Upon first glance, it almost appears three dimensional, as though it’s a computer rendered model. However, upon closer inspection one becomes aware of the gentle brush strokes and blended colors. In my eyes, this effect works well for this piece, as it not only allows for two different ways to appreciate the artwork, but it also helps to bridge the gap between reality and imagination.
This piece takes care in every aspect, placing so much character and life into a single image. From this, viewers can garner quite a bit about the character, and the race to which he belongs. From the garments he wears, to the adornments of his staff, to the intense expression on his face, this image is sharing with us this characters story, and never a word needs to be typed. If one has the desire to look, this portrait can indeed say a thousand words.
I think one of the things that I like most about this piece is the motion of it. Given the overall composition of the piece, and the fact that he has so many seashells, I am going to assume that he is a sea-fairing creature, or at the very least, under the waves in this illustration. You can see motion in this image with his silver hair gently flowing, pulled left, while his stance leans mostly right. The cape also is pulled to the left, though to a lesser extent, likely due to its greater weight. This could also be that he is sinking in water, given that the braids of hair are beginning to float up. This sense of motion helps the picture to feel alive and dynamic.
If I was to look for things that could be improved, I might point to the nail of his big toe on the back foot. It almost appears that we are seeing the full nail, but only the profile of the toe. Perhaps shrink the nail back a bit and let us see more of the side of the toe. Perspective has always been a struggle for me as an artist, so I could be mistaken on this, but it just seems a bit off to me.
The only other place that I could direct your attention would be to his chin. The dimple seems a bit off center of his face. It seems like it should have been moved a little more to the right (his left) and placed beneath the center of the lip. Again, I could be mistaken here, but it looks just the slightest bit out of place to me.
Other than those two minor gripes, I can find no real fault with this image. Expertly done, and immaculately detailed. An inspiration piece for certain, and one that’s certain to get the creative juices flowing for anyone who sees this before embarking on a campaign of Pathfinder.
Thank you for sharing, well done, and have a great day!

I do love the staff - its detailes and reality! Well, reality... you know, what I mean I always wondered, why most of the fantasy staffs are so straight... And here? Finally something not straight enough to be alluring and to look great!
The second thing I love is the belt and everything attached to it. Detailes are so great that I won't waste words on it - it is simply perfect. Other detailes, like rings, also make the picture better.
It is a good art!
