Naw this looks really good^^ I love it! I'm just not sure from where the light come from since it seems to come from all over the place. but it sure looks appealing.

Thanks so much! Oh yeah there's some crazy lighting going on here I'll admit. I focused much more on making sure the composition didn't look chaotic so I relied on magic lighting to push and pull focus areas XD

yea it really looks good tho but if the viewer has knowledge about lighting then it's kinda a mess
because it's confusing
but it's a great jobe none the less:S

Well it's not toooo crazy. It's mostly top down lighting that's broken up by the tree leaves

How do you like to do your process with complex pictures that have more than one character? Background first or the characters? And how do you keep your lighting consistent? i remember your video with Egbert and make sure to watch that at least once a month but I'm still trying to work out the balance with all the elements in my pictures.

Wow thanks for watching the video! I'm really glad it's helping! I've been meaning to do more walk through videos with audio commentary since I've evolved my method a bit since I did that workshop
For extremely dense compositions like this painting, I tend to work harder in the draft states to make sure that I'm allowing for breathing room and having strong poses that don't feel cluttered. Here's the progress shots for this painting: imgur.com/a/a4led
Once I get a pose for the characters, I sketch in the background as a frame around them that helps compliment the figure but not upstage them. The lighting in this kind of painting is much harder since there is a lot of room for variation and noise. I tend to distort the lighting quite a bit to make it work in favor of the composition. For example, I'll stack light and dark areas against each other in order to reduce the need for complicated or distracting lighting scenarios that would otherwise clutter the composition. Basically, a lot of artistic liberty when interpreting light and shadow if I think it's going to make a complicated composition really choked and cluttered.
