Description And a Stirling Engine, the O Class of the South Eastern Railway, designed by James Stirling for freight traffic, they were used on lines in and around the Kent Coal Fields seeing the use of the Kent & East Sussex, and East Kent Railways.

As well as working shunting work.

They were built between 1878 and 1899, with 122 examples built, 59 were re-built with H Class boilers, these became the O1, several were given new cabs, others not.

Their withdrawal at least for the O Class was between 1906 and 1932, whilst the O1 was between 1912, with the first being No282, and the last two 31065, and 31258, of these two the former is now preserved. This sheet shows them between their introduction in 1878 and their 1903 onwards condition.
