Mandelbulb3D. Bulbox/RuckerBrot1/Aex-TorusPow. Julia On.Trying and failing to understand transparency. The grey parts are supposed to be partly (about 3/4) transparent. "Transparency" did make them grey (they were white) but it also added the dark speckles on them.

If you're using a light map that will often alter what you are expecting to see.

Thanks for the tip but that wasn't the problem here. (I've actually never used light maps.) The problem is me figuring out the interaction between transparency and specular on the Object subpanel of the Lighting Panel, and all the parameters on the Reflection + Transparency part of the postprocess panel. I'm beginning to get a feel for it but haven't figured out a lot of things, such as how to get transparency/refraction without extra reflections, or how to realistically model colored glass. I'll muddle through.
