Description
Samantha and Victor from my upcoming comic or novel 'Chasing Image'.One layer digital painting. At the begining it was two layers(line-art was on a seperate layer), but somewhere in the middle I merged down the lineart.
I realised that painting in a single layer has lots of advantages, like I could work on nice big format, the original is 4608x5116 px, and my PC didn't die on me. Also, colors blend really nicely and you have this overly painterly feeling.
But, there are some flaws, like, everything smudges really easly, so you have to make corrections all the time. And you need to carefully follow the lines to not destroy everything you've done so far.
It was lots of fun! I really enjoyed working on this one. *u*
Made in SAI.

I'd like to keep that a secret for now, or else it won't be as interesting to read. It will be a fantasy, adventure battle comic with a bit of romance. :3

Ah, the advantages of digital art. You can just make a back-up before attempting something brave. That way, if you fail, you can just load up the old picture. (It's only one layer, too, so it won't even take a long time!) If you adjust the persistence bar for the brush, it also won't smudge as much at times when you don't need it to.
(I did that last green picture pretty much in a single layer, so I know all about it. >:U)
Imho, random bits of lineart here and there don't really work. Lined and lineless can look good together, but then you'd have to choose what things to outline and which to leave without, and make it consistent. The clock looks like out of a completely different picture compared to the characters, for instance.
Speaking of the clock, I like how you did the individual glass pieces on the ground, but as for the clock itself - it's hard to tell which parts have glass on them and which don't. I would've made the parts without glass a little darker than that, since they shouldn't reflect nearly as much light as glass does.
I like how you shaded the faces, and that color scheme you picked.
However, if you cover them, you'll notice right away that the rest of the picture isn't shaded anywhere as diligently.
Though I understand you: drawing heads is really is fun, so it's easy to get way too carried away with it. :3
How long did this take, by the way?

Nah, I dislike making backups, then you don't have the thrill, or something, lol. XD I mess up rarely anyway. :3
And I like the smudginess! *u*
Oh, most of the picture has line-art, but it is slightly coloured, so I guess it kind of disappeared when I resized. But yeah, I could have worked more on the clock, you are right about that, but about the rest of the background idk, seems consistent enough to me, I did spend more time on the characters, though. :3
I'm not sure about the time, but I remember drawing it two days straight. I did something else from time to time, like house chores and such, so.. I think it was around 18 hours or something. Ah, time flies so fast when I'm drawing. |D
If I could draw all the time I would grow old without noticing. XD

//wow! 0_0 Well, SAI does not allow a format bigger than 6000x6000 px, so I can't make it bigger than that. XD

Very nice work! I love how the brush strokes in some places are not fully blended, it gives the work real painting effect or something like that. Well, maybe I didn't formulate it correctly, but the idea is that it's very well done!
