Description I love these guys <3 And Andre gets to be there twice, because the collage had 25 squares and there's 24 belugas lol
The original point of this was to show how they each have such unique faces. I'm...not entirely sure it worked XD, but I had fun with it.

Left to right:
1st row: Andre, Beyli, Isis, Horus, Gemini
2nd row: Burnaby, Jubilee, 'Jelly Bean', Maple, Charmin
3rd row: Peekachu, Skyla, Xena, Caspian, Cleo
4th row: Peanut, Kelowna, Osiris, Oceanna, Sierra
5th row: Tofino, Kodiak, Tuk, Orion, Andre again

Ignore the crappy photos of Sierra & Beyli (Beyli NEVER puts his face out of the water, I swear XD), and the fact that Orion & Tuk look like twins, are in the exact same position, and even got cut off in the same way lol.

On a random but interesting note: Very few of the 'lugas at MLC are actually pure white. Even though most sources of info say they turn white at 7-9 years old, there are many belugas at/over that age that aren't white there. All I can think of at the moment who are actually pure white are Andre, Beyli, Xena and sort of Skyla. Tuk's almost there too.

Great job! Instant :fav+:! I find it amazing how you can tell all 24 apart! I have such a HARD TIME with Klondike, Aruek and Juno (although it's getting easier each time I go). I can imagine myself at MLC... My head would EXPLODE!

Thank you! I thought learning to ID the lugas would be hard, but they're all so distinctive it's pretty easy. MLC's belugas all have really obvious scars or markings, plus they have really distinct personalities (lucky for me). Three years experience helps too XD It's nice to hear how our boys are doing!

That's really cool! Isn't it amazing how cetaceans each have their own individual personalities? All 3 of your boys are doing just fine, I'm going to SWF for a few days next week so I'll be spending LOTS of time with them. I think they're personalities are all similar, they are all evil.... Klondike's kind of a bully though to the other ones.... he chases them around with his mouth wide open . They're all so cute!

I love finding out about their personalities. With such a large group, you get every personality imaginable, from Peekachu, who's the sweetest baby-sitter, to Jubilee, who's...um...got a lot of attitude XD, to Gemini the super-mom. It's great you'll be spending time with the boys, I hope you post photos! Klondike can be pretty pushy, but Juno is a complete sweetheart And from what I've heard, Aurek's getting a reputation for being pretty smart! He's the easiest to tell apart because he's got a black mark on his face, no one knows where it came from lol.

I'll be sure to post the photos of the boys! made ID guides for the boys, and I still rely heavily on them. All of them are extremely sweet and interactive.

Jube's a primadonna? I can't wait to hear what JB will turn out to be like! From what I've observed with cetaceans, the calves learn part of their personalities from their moms... that can mean trouble sometimes....

Can't wait for the photos! I didn't know the belugas as well when the boys were here, but it'll still be great to see how much they've grown! Jubilee has so much attitude XD She spits and gets in everyone's way and steals everyone's fish. I'm a little afraid to see how JB turns out....lol no, she is the sweetest little calf. She really is the most playful calf ever, above water and at the glass, she just wants to play and get attention from EVERYONE. And she's very independent already, which is interesting compared to the boys (Burnaby & Horus) who are total momma's boys. lol It'll be great to watch her grow

I know how you feel. I've watched many an orca calf grow up (but most recently Trua, Nalani, and Malia), and it's always great to see how they each develop their own little unique personalities. I'd love to see pictures of JB, I haven't seen any recent ones of her.. just ones from last season. It's kind of funny to hear how little JB seems to be the total opposite of her mother as of current... hopefully she'll stay that way!!

Aw it must be great seeing those guys grow up, especially when you've got so many babies together! I've watched Athena grow (I started going around when she was born), plus most of the beluga calves. You feel so attached when you watch them from babies, even if you don't really work with them Here's some more shots of JB from last week if you're interested:

[link] (With Burnaby, they get along so well ) I hope she keeps this personality too! She's got a lot of baby-sitters who are...um...a bit sweeter than her mom XD So hopefully they're wearing off on her!

WOW, she got so BIG! She's really a ham, I can tell from the pictures that she must LOVE watching people!

I'd love to come up to MLC and meet her! How many beluga calves are at MLC right now?

Think this should be under photomanip though. Amazing way to show them all at once. I love all the different little details to them. And am even more impressed you can tell them apart.

The categories of DA confuse me XD You're probably right. And thank you! Once you see them in person, it's amazingly easy to tell them apart, especially since you can see their personalities, trainers, companions etc.

You forgot to mention how white Kodi is... he is much more white than Tuk! lol... I love this piece! Really shows off their beautiful faces... and considering, it is a pretty good picture of Belyi, I don't have many of him either... it's a shame because he is so handsome
They really are easy to tell apart once you wrap your mind around there being so many of them!

Tsitika In reply to Chaotica-I [2007-10-30 01:16:39 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! They really are! And yes, Beyli, just once I'd like a nice look at his lovely face lol! But yeah, true - all of the boys (Orion, Kodi, Tuk...ok not Tofino XD) got really white over the winter. You can see almost all of the belugas getting white really quickly, just most of them aren't there yet lol.

Chaotica-I In reply to Tsitika [2007-10-30 01:26:37 +0000 UTC]

It was easier to see Beyli when he was in the other pool (the one where Kodi was all summer), he was in there for several years and I got some pretty decent underwater shots that showed off how striking he is! It is such an awesome opportunity to watch belugas grow up... get old and white... can't believe how big Horus and Burnaby were at the end of the season! They grow up so fast
