Description
Someday I will visit ice caves. And it will be magical. OwOBelated Christmas gift for =Pure-Escapism of her fursona's winter form (which is so pretty just look at how cute she is). She secretly made me a beautiful gift, so I secretly made her one in return~ >w> This is one of the pictures I'm most proud of right now, but I'm certainly up for critiques.

Ok. I'm going to give this a go... I've never a critique in this critique thingy before. I'm sorry this is so late. I intended to do one right when you published this but I never got around to it.
I really love the overall feel of this piece. You did a great job at making it feel cool and frigid by using the blue back light and cool colours. The way you did the texture on the back wall is also very well done- I can almost see how the light on the wall would shimmer and move as if it were reflecting off of water. The texturing on the icicles is also great- they look very much like they're made of water.
Another thing I thing works great is the stylistic think lines. I love that you lined the background as well as the character- it really helps bring everything together. The soft shading on the character helps as well (as well as making the fur look so soft and snuggly). On a similar note, that face is adorable. Just sayin.
Now, on to things I think could be improved. The thing that pops out to me the most is the icicle that the tail is wrapped around. The shading on the tail and just how tails usually are would lead us to believe that the tail is stretched out behind the body, but the icicle it is wrapped around is in the foreground (looks to me to be on about the same plane as the shoulders) so it creates a disconnect between the character and the top of the background. The tail kind of looks like it's awkwardly reaching forward in kind of an unnatural way or the icicle is diagonally going back into the background. This could be easily remedied by making it so the icicle is in the background (like the second row of icicles you have there).
I also think that it would have been a nice touch to have something in the opening to indicate what was out there. For example, clouds if it's outside or more faint icicles if it's another ice cave just to give us a better sense of what the environment is like.
Lastly, it might have been a nice touch to darken the corners of the picture a bit to add to the feel of the back-lit scene with the cave that's descending into darkness.
Overall I think this is a wonderful piece that has a great environment and feel to it. It really comes together well and is well executed and I think it's something you should really be proud of!

First of all, the icicles love you, the lines love you, the fur loves you, and her adorable face LOVES YOUR FACE. 
That icicle thing you mentioned is something I never would have noticed otherwise, but you're right, it does throw off the perspective a little. That's a good tip to remember ... keeping in mind middleground/foreground and not having them crossover. I like your advice about the opening, since I ended up drawing it bigger than I planned (the reason it's just a bright light is because of this picture [link] I saw when I was browsing pictures of ice caves), so you could probably see more out there. Thank you for all your advice on this piece, I'll definitely keep everything in mind!
