Description
The cover of what will hopefully be a full fancomic—God Willing. My Little Pony: Friendship Update
Now, it looks a little angsty from the cover, I’m sure—but I am determined to keep all angst within the boundaries of good taste and within the personalities set by the show’s authors. Which is to say I will try to incorporate more ‘mature’ ideas into the writing, because the only people who will be reading this will probably be older fans of the show, but I hope it will be nothing grotesque, inappropriate, or out of key with the show’s premise—which is basically about whimsical, innocent little ponies in a magical land and their occasional battles with eldritch forces of unspeakable malice and evil.
Here we go.

This is one amazing image! The falling stars and the images in the book look beautiful.

not so much a fan of the Death on a Grand Scale concept as it relates to My Little Pony
True. I figure the drama of the story would come from the struggle to avert Death on a Grand Scale. There is certainly potential for "DoaGS," but there doesn't *have* to be.
More wild brainstorming: This idea could potentially link up with 's "New Royal Guard" comic. [link]
Celestia, the Mane 6, and the EoH pop into limbo in the process of destroying The Cosmic Threat. In the process, they disrupt the surface war that began when non-Pony species attempted for force their way into underground shelters the Earth Ponies built to ride out the impact.

And this is why this show is so bucking awesome.
I really like the comets/debris/whatever it is in the sky. It almost reminds me of deorbiting debris from the Shuttle Columbia. For purposes of Eldritch plot, I figure it's aliens or something supernatural, but I think there's some dramatic appeal to it being "natural," sort of like a "Deep Impact" scenario. [link] (film)

You know that's not a bad idea and if I hadn't written out the entire plot so far and scripted about 70% of it in my head I might very well have considered changing tactics. (This is not sarcasm. I am quite serious.)

I don't have time to write an AU for your AU, but - oh. Oh no. You've got me thinking too.
This is copy-pasted from an "Avatar" fanfic I'm writing [link] , but if Equestria is a "real place," on the surface of a planet or moon, it could be adapted.
It was an unfortunate day to be sentient.
Small blue-tinged mammals looked up perplexedly from their fretful grazing as wave after terror-stricken wave of batlike fliers screeched overhead. It was another in a series of bizarre events that had begun that morning with a blaze of light through the thick canopy, followed by a strong ground-lurch. The herbivores' collective memory had never encountered anything quite like it. As a nearby clan of proto-sapiens hunched back down to scoop a last cluster of berries, they vaporized as the massive shockwave ripping along behind the birds liquefied the tubers in their stomachs.
Across a wide swath of the violet-tinged moon, creatures fell to the ground, flash-blinded by another giant bubble of light swelling hundreds of kilometers into the thick air. Within minutes, the flash was eaten up by a charcoal-clogged mushroom cloud that boiled high into the upper atmosphere. Sprouting like a gigantic zit above the verdant surface, the million-ton spray of debris finally expended its energy in the thermosphere and ripped into planet-spanning mud-colored tentacles, driven by the jet stream.
Orbiting a gas giant doomed its small passengers to a rough life. The planet's massive electromagnetic aura was only partially countered by a powerful, dueling magnetosphere, and whirling into the giant's shadow produced months of plant-killing, starvation-inducing twilight.
The mother giant also held the unenvious distinction as the largest asteroid sponge within two light-years, sucking up cosmic drifters as it spun through bands of interstellar dust. Its swirling, blue-banded surface frequently sported dark, ugly scars, as sometimes did the surface of any moon unlucky enough to be in the way.
Basically, as I envision in my Avatar story, the system cycles through bands of interstellar debris at regular (~5,000-year) intervals, and the bombardment forms the basis for the "Toruk Makto" stories ([link] "a time of great sorrow," damn straight) and reboots the Navi back to hunter-gatherer status after each ordeal, so they haven't had time to form agrarian societies and follow Earth's development path.
As for Equestria, perhaps there's a similar cosmic metronome, but they've been able to activate the Elements of Harmony and vaporize the swath of asteroids each time, though it happens at so deep a time scale that the stories are little more than cave-paintings and scribbles on parchment. Celestia didn't have to deal with it, because on the astronomic scale, 1,000 years is nothing at all. Of course, it shows up when the Mane 6 possess the EoH, because DRAMA!
Picture [link] , but instead of Ursa Minor, Twi is holding back a massive space rock. And she had to make the choice between saving Manehatten or Fillydelphia.

Huh! Dang—that is an idea. Perhaps not one I'd touch myself—not so much a fan of the Death on a Grand Scale concept as it relates to My Little Pony—but still, it's pretty interesting.

Huh, you know this is interesting and pretty well thought out for such a short time! I'd recommend you write it but you said you don't have the time already. Problem with this particular vein of story is, unfortunately, that it kinda steps away from the original message I'm trying to convey! I have a set of friendship lessons planned out for the course of the story and I think fighting off a big, non-intelligent physical entity followed by a straight-up war might step on the toes of a few of 'em.

If such a FanComic should be in production soon, I certainly hope it's a strong story with most, if not all, of the characters we have come to love and root for since this show's run.

BY ILLUSTRATING THE ENTIRE THING.
Well, no, not really. I’m not sure how or if I will stand out! I just really like this story idea and want to have it in a form where I can read it!

Well that's cool, just as long you make it as original as possible. It's one thing having most of the modern day cast of MLP and such, but creating an original story is definitely considered the most difficult.
Hopefully that works well in your case.
Also you got to beware of those grammer mistakes, they are a pet peeve for any reader.

Also it’d be cool to slip in extras but I’m not sure what they’d be or where they’d go.

This is seriously very good. I'd expand on that, but there is too much to list properly. The shading, the book (so much detail), Celestia, the falling stars, the mane 6's pose and expression that really capture their personalities... All very good and together, impressive.
I'm looking forward to the actual thing!
