Description

I think the description below will get updated eventually too, but not now (inb4 i never ever touch it)

Let's cut to the chase: Season 3 of SpongeBob is the strongest season of the pre-movie era. I love it, and on the surface, this season may seem exactly like season 2 yet again but with better coloring, and that may be true... but...

...that's not entirely correct, since there was one major difference that I've been trying to place my finger on that displaces this season from S2, and I think I've figured out what it is: I believe that SpongeBob lost that sense of being a child in this season. He's much more of an every-man and it's demonstrated in episodes like Rock-a-Bye Bivalve and Party Pooper Pants. It makes this season a little on the mundane side even if I still like a majority of these episodes.
I will say though, one big positive this season does poses is that flukes this season has aren't THAT bad (well, y'know, besides Party Pooper Pants), and between the first three seasons, this one has the least number of duds.

The general episode quality is top tier because the average ep here is easily among the best things the series has produced, but the rest is a bit interchangeable, and this made me realize something that affects this season: I don't know why, but looking at this pie chart, season 3 seems to be really small. I can tell that even one episode rating can make a difference, but that doesn't matter because this entire season is a national treasure.

This still means that I still think the comedy in this season is really strong and is even more brilliant than season 2 thanks to episodes like Idiot Box, which honestly shows just how much millage they can get out of a literal bottle episode. You can tell that the animation in this episode had cut corners, but what ultimately drives the plot is Squidward's idiotic fear building up over the course of the episode, and the extremely well-written dialogue. It manages to showcase a subtle, but effective dynamic without even needing to have all three of these characters be in the same physical place at once. If I'm going to be honest, this season actually did a much better job at its plots than season 2. Some of these episodes are the most unique episodes of the series, like The Algae's Always Greener and the famous Krusty Krab Training Video. Both of these episodes are a sight to behold, as the former has one of my favorite premises in the whole series, and the latter is unlike any other episodes in the series in terms of structure, so much so that not even Boat Smarts could capture the way this episode was structured or capture its top-tier satire. Both manage to go a long way in their premises. The former covers every single trope this show has done at the Krusty Krab (Squidward being a grump, SpongeBob being irritating , Pearl annoying "Krabs" for money, "Plankton" trying to steal the formula, unsatisfied customers, etc.) and Plankton's reactions to them all are just glorious. This episode really cemented Plankton as one of my favorite characters on this series.
As for KKTV... do I even need to explain why this episode rules? It's a perfect take on employee training videos, as all it does is throw joke after joke after joke at you... it's pretty much the only episode of the series without an actual story going on. It's more like a sketch, and the amount of subversion put here is marvelous. Every single fourth wall break here has me gasping for air, every single segment in this episode has jokes centered on things that shouldn't even be funny (the whole Hygiene section and Interfacing With Your Boss) but somehow are, and that ending still both frustrates me and humors me both at the same time.

Overall, season 3 of SpongeBob is still a lot of fun. Despite having a dumpster fire of a special, I can say that the comedy in nearly every single one of these episodes was strong enough to weigh this one up to one of the best seasons. I can see both this and season 2 being slight turn-offs since their biggest priority is comedy while everything else comes second, and while it is a problem for season 2, it is not for season 3 because this is probably the 2nd funniest season of the show. It's overall a AMAZING season and I consider it the best of pre-movie simply because it's one of the funniest seasons in the series (top 3 at least) and keeps a consistent quality with almost no dips.

Dear SpongeTards

"Wet Painters" is a SpongeBob SquarePants  episode from season three . In this episode, SpongeBob  and Patrick  paint the inside of Mr. Krabs ' house. SpongeBob  and Patrick  are tearing the Krusty Krab  down and getting themselves hurt because Squidward  tricked them into thinking it would attract customers. Mr. Krabs  figures this out and sentences the two to do a super, special, secret assignment--to paint the inside of his house . But Mr. Krabs tells them that the paint  they are using is permanent. So if they get paint, even a drop, on anything except the wall, he will cut off their butts and place them above his fireplace. SpongeBob sees that Mr. Krabs has so many possessions, and tells Patrick he decides to move them first. Patrick says that there is no need to move the things because they are not paid to move them.

Then they place a tarp, but it is just a small tarp, so they put down more tarps. SpongeBob takes out a huge brush but decides to use a tiny brush. SpongeBob takes it out, and then, six hours later, carefully paints a drop onto the wall, which begins dropping. SpongeBob (in a panic that it may get onto an item) blows on it to change direction, and blow dries it off the wall, only to have created a giant paint bubble. Patrick blows another giant bubble shortly after, and the two merge. SpongeBob assures that the bubble cannot get any bigger, but Patrick says "Nonsense!" and inflates the bubble, causing it to pop, covering Mr. Krabs' whole house in paint, without getting a drop on anything... except on Mr. Krabs' first dollar

SpongeBob tries wiping the stain off with his tie, but only ends up covering the entire dollar in paint. Then they try a couple more things to get it off, including washing it in a washing machine, spraying it, using a saw, beating it up with a club and using a computer (which Patrick just uses to smash it), but all fail. Then they decide to put another dollar on the wall. Patrick takes out a dollar from his wallet, but Patrick uses it to buy a candy bar from Mr. Krabs' candy machine instead. SpongeBob looks into a mirror, assuring that he shall overcome panic through strength... just as Mr. Krabs approaches his door, thus making SpongeBob's reflection leave him on his own. SpongeBob panics, but comes up with an idea to hide the stained dollar.

Mr. Krabs opens the door to his house to find the lights turned off. He turns them on and sees his house is tidy, and no bubbles. SpongeBob and Patrick are about to leave, but Mr. Krabs panics, and they think Mr. Krabs finds out about the stained dollar. They apologize, but Mr. Krabs is just surprised that they dusted his knickknacks. He panics again, SpongeBob and Patrick apologize again, but he is surprised about the painted floor molding. He panics again because he finds out that they messed up with his dollar...rama . One of his dolls in the doll collection isn't upright. He says that they can go home now, but then runs into a pile of paintings where his dollar usually went and moves away each one to find SpongeBob covering the dollar.

A drawn face with crayon all over Mr. Krabs' first dollar

Mr. Krabs soon takes him out of the way to find his first dollar stained by paint and drawn on by crayon (Patrick thinks Mr. Krabs will buy it). SpongeBob and Patrick are afraid to have their rear ends cut off, but he licks the dollar, and the paint (including the crayon marking) comes off of the dollar. The two are confused, and Mr. Krabs says the paint actually comes off with saliva. SpongeBob concludes that Mr. Krabs said that the paint was permanent so they would be extra careful, but Mr. Krabs said he tricked them just for fun, and laughs at his own jest, causing SpongeBob and Patrick to storm out in disgust. Unfortunately, Mr. Krabs laughs so hard that he spits all over the place, causing all the paint to melt from the walls. He groans in disappointment as he realizes this and mutters to himself that he really needs to learn how to "say it, not spray it."

"Squidtastic Voyage" is a SpongeBob SquarePants  episode from season four . In this episode, SpongeBob  and Patrick  travel inside Squidward  to retrieve his clarinet reed.

    CharactersEdit

SynopsisEdit At SpongeBob's house , Patrick and SpongeBob are dancing. The music is shaking Squidward's house, so Squidward becomes annoyed and requests to SpongeBob to lower the volume. When they do not listen, Squidward plays a squeaky tune which sends SpongeBob and Patrick flying into Squidward's house and causes SpongeBob to hit Squidward, lodging his clarinet in his throat, which makes Squidward produce squeaky notes. When SpongeBob gets the clarinet out of Squidward's throat the reed is still stuck in him and Squidward blames SpongeBob. They then go to Sandy, who has a plan. She decides to go in a submarine, shrink herself (and the submarine), go into Squidward's body, and retrieve the reed.

When Sandy goes to get some acorns and nuts from her treedome , she tells SpongeBob to guard the submarine. Patrick walks by and tricks SpongeBob into guarding the submarine from the inside. They go in there and guard it when Patrick presses the shrink button, shrinking the submarine. Sandy comes back and notices them. She then has to guide them to Squidward's brain. There, SpongeBob and Patrick start to hit parts of the brain, making Squidward lose self-control.

For a moment, SpongeBob and Patrick actually fight each other for control of the vehicle and land in Squidward's stomach, where the gastric acid starts to eat the submarine away. Patrick thinks of an idea: If Squidward can drink soda, then bubbles (gas) would surround them and it would refuel the submarine. Squidward drinks soda and the suddenly burps creating bubbles. They travel through the throat where SpongeBob removes the clarinet reed by doing what he was "born to do," dance.  The reed is removed and the gang celebrates, but is cut short by the sound of the now angered Squidward. He demands them to leave his body and yells at them to "GO!" However, Patrick mistakes it for "grow" and hits the grow button while still being in Squidward's body.

Squidward is next seen at the Krusty Krab  looking bloated and his stomach in the shape of a submarine. A flush sound is then heard, followed by Patrick, still stuck in the submarine in Squidward's body, claiming the toilet is clogged (again, apparently) Squidward groans.

    TriviaEdit Timeline

    Timecards

    • Two hours later

    GeneralEdit

    • The beginning of the episode is similar to the main plot of "Jellyfish Jam ," in that SpongeBob's loud music makes Squidward angry.
    • SpongeBob makes a reference to "SB-129 " when he says, "Squidward! You swallowed your clarinet again!"
      • This is the second episode in which Squidward swallows his clarinet . The first was in "SB-129."
    • When the micro-submarine is bouncing inside Squidward's skull, the blue sparks are piezoelectricity, the body's electricity.
    • In the near end of the episode, there can be seen a roof above the kitchen/office area behind where Mr. Krabs is standing painted green. This does not appear in any other episodes.
      • It is also the color of the floor of the Krusty Krab.
    • This episode aired on YTV  on April 112007 , during an event called SpongeBob Wednesday Pants .
    • In the UK, this episode is sometimes paired with "Chimps Ahoy ."
    • In the Hebrew dub , this episode is called "יום בתוך סקווידוויד" translating to "Day inside Squidward."
    • In the Greek dub , this episode is called "Ένα καλαμαρένιο ταξίδι" translating to "A Squid Trip."
    • This episode must set before "20,000 Patties Under the Sea " as Patrick states he's never been in a submarine.
    • There is an online game based on this episode called InvasiVoyage .
    • This is the first episode to play the "Tension Bits ."
    • This is the second episode to involve shrinking. The first is "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy IV ."
    • The song "SpongeBob Rocks the House" was later used in the video game Grand Theft Auto IV .
    Cultural referencesEdit ErrorsEdit
    • In reality, the mouthpiece was the piece stuck in Squidward's throat. The reed is attached to the mouthpiece which vibrates to make a sound out of an instrument. The reed is also a brownish-yellow and not black, which is the color of the mouthpiece.
    • When SpongeBob says "Whirlpool spin!", his mouth does not move. The same error occurred in "Squirrel Jokes ."
    • In the first scene of the submarine , it looks like it is on an open platform, but later starting in the scene with SpongeBob guarding the submarine, it looks like it is in a room.
    • Nickelodeon Poland mistakenly aired this episode on March 42014  with English audio track instead of Polish audio track.
    • When SpongeBob and Patrick are saying "Whee!" in the submarine, SpongeBob blinks his eyes, but his eyelashes are still seen.
    • When Squidward burps, Sandy smells it even though she is wearing a helmet. However, she should not be able to because of the helmet on her head. In "Karate Island ," she could not smell Filthy Phil's body odor.
    • When SpongeBob cuts the reed in half, red electricity is randomly seen for less than a second.

Squidtastic Voyage and That's No Lady aired on December 1, 2006.

    • Comcast claims that this episode and "That's No Lady" first aired December 1, 2006.
    • Squidward cannot stop making clarinet noises in the beginning because he swallows the whole clarinet at first, yet he can speak just fine in Sandy's submarine lab.
    • On the Season 4 Volume 2  DVD, there's a closed-captioning error when SpongeBob and Patrick are dancing at the beginning, SpongeBob says, "Tropical breeze!" However, the captions said "Tropical waves" instead.

    DEAR SPONGETARDS

The fourth season of the American animated television series SpongeBob SquarePants , created by former marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg , was announced in November 2004 . It premiered on May 62005  with the episodes "Fear of a Krabby Patty " and "Shell of a Man ," and ended on July 242007 with the episode "Squid Wood ."

Unlike the previous seasons' DVDs, season 4's was split into volumes. The volume one DVD  was released in Region 1 on September 122006 , the volume two DVD  was released in Region 1 on January 9 , 2007, the season set was released its entirety in Region 2 on November 32008 , and on November 132012 , the entire collection of episodes from season 4 was released on DVD  in Region 1.

    Production

Although series creator Stephen Hillenburg wanted the show to end after release of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie  to prevent it from "jumping the shark " and because SpongeBob SquarePants had peaked with the first movie, Nickelodeon wanted more episodes to be produced in accordance with high ratings and series-based merchandise sales. Thus, the show was renewed for a fourth season.[1]  However, Hillenburg resigned as the showrunner and appointed Paul Tibbitt .[2]

In November 2004, Tom KennyBill Fagerbakke , and the rest of the crew confirmed that they had completed four new episodes for broadcast on Nickelodeon in early 2005,[3] [4]  and planned to finish about 20 total for the then-fourth season.[3] [4]  In particular, Kenny said, "Kids were happy watching them for the 3,000th time. It was the parents who've been busting my chops for new episodes."[5]  He remarked that it would be "the same show, the same sponge."[5]
