Description
My description for this series is going to be reaaalllly long since I can talk forever about it. On that note, if you want to know what my favorite show of all time is, excluding eras of any other show (In that case, Classic Simpsons is my favorite show ever), you're looking at it: Avatar: The Last AirbenderIf you want a tl;dr of what my review is going to say, I think the cast of characters are the strongest in any TV show ever, and they give all of them (besides the Fire Lord) such depth that Appa and Momo, the two animal characters, are among my 2 favorite characters in the franchise AND in animation history (I once wrote an essay about how they are multi-dimensional btw lol). There's a lot of comedy for a series that tackles heavy themes and I found myself laughing through a lot of episodes, but none of them create any tonal confusion and they interject the comedy at just the right place and time-- something Classic Simpsons was able to do too. And speaking of heavy themes, Avatar goes to places no other kids cartoon could ever think of: we are explicitly told and shown that the Fire Nation committed a genocide, animal abuse, child abuse, ableism, discrimination, authoritarianism, propaganda, I could list so many more that the series goes over with tact and grace but we'll save that for later
Either way, it's a perfectly told story from start to finish, and the lesser episodes of the series are still really good because I love watching these characters be these characters. You could have an episode dedicated to them doing nothing and I will call it better than a majority of most other cartoons.... except the Fire Lord. Really, the only "problem" Avatar has is that its final boss is the flattest villain you will ever see-- a mustached evil ball of fire whose only motive is to destroy anything in his path because he can, and consider this a hot take but I remember Korra having better villains than ATLA overall, even though I remember its second season having a shitty joke of a villain. And yes, expect a Korra scorecard in a month from now or something because I'm marathoning it for like the fifth time now.
In conclusion, this show is horrable and I hate it
