Companion to Super Nerd Clark fav.me/da28dcbNo, I've never watched Dawn of Justice. So let's not get into that here.
Let's talk about Batman as I know him... you know, in my own head cannon.
We all know how Bruce Wayne in an instant went from happy but some what easily frightened kid to a traumatized orphan. No one can dispute that that was the most definitive moment in this character's history.
Next we normally see the hard scramble of an angry young man trying to become stronger than the shadows his parents were killed in. Slowly, over the seasons, he twisted and warped him self in those shadows and became the dark terror of the night.Β
You become what you focus on, after all.
And As I see it he became obsessed. I don't believe in spirits rising from the grave, but I do believe in people being haunted: and this character was certainly haunted. That sort of haunting will rot a person's soul from the inside out. Guilt and anger are a particularly toxic poison in a teen.
He should have been dead.
Batman alone is a moment in time: bright spark of pain enveloped in a cloak of hate and fear. Fodder for the older and harder shadows that lurk in the corners of gritty Gotham streets. The taint surely should have pulled him under in the first few weeks.
But he wasn't alone.
Stronger than shadows, if only just bright enough to catch a glimpse of now and then, stands ever patient Alfred. Who will quietly clean wounds, and firmly remind his charge to eat, and sleep, and go to the seemingly endless and pointless social gatherings the Wayne wealth demands of him.
Alfred who cleans the china and makes soup and keeps the first aid kit well stocked.
Alfred who once took acting classes and was good at it and now quietly misses the very brief time he had in the lime light.
Alfred who was once a field medic and now uses those medical skills far more frequently than he ever thought he would need at his own home.
Alfred, who worked with MI6 on missions still classified and hidden - even from the prying eyes of his young the night stalker.
Alfred who might be terrified the dark shadows are winning...
"Would you like me to turn the alarms off for the night, Sir?"
"No. Fuel the car, I'm going back out just as soon as I can get this to stop bleeding."
... but will act like it doesn't effect him and treat the wounds one more time and keep perfect silence.
Because he's Alfred.
...............................
I basically wanted to test out my drawing skills on my tablet. Sketching then cleaning up a doodle is time consuming, no matter what you are using, and I feel like I have a lot more control over pencils on paper. But that's just a practice thing. Doing more art on the computer means buying less paper... so I'll probably do more of digital sketches. AND I might as well do a subject that is currently trying to suck me in.

The image says so much even in sketch form with minimal coloring. Β Nice!
