Breaking the forth wall can be trite for sure but I think the fact that you wait until the forth panel lessens the sting of such.

In that the characters don't verbally indicate hey this is breaking the forth wall and you pull your punch aka indication that ya are breaking the forth wall for the end.Β IN other words it is subtle and not overtop like let's a Deadpool comic book.
