No, A Link to the Past is not a direct sequel to Zelda II. But Alttp was known as "Zelda 3" around and before it's release. At the time there was only two other Zelda games.

I guess. You have a point in Zelda 1 and 2 having the same "Link" in them. So you're not wrong, I'm just not used to the sequel having the number next to it. (i.e. Majora's Mask, sequel to OoT)
If they officially made a "Zelda III" then I'd be very surprised.
I only call ALttP Zelda 3 because it was the third game to be made.
ALTHOUGH. The Link in ALttP, Oracle of Ages/Seasons, and Link's Awakening are all the same Link too.
Don'tcha just love following Zelda continuity? c:

Thank you for the comment. I know, sometimes I think the 'III' is not that visible, probably because, as you say, not used to having the Zelda games numbered. I dont really want to bring up the Zelda continuity again. I've done that so many times. But I agree with what you say.
