Description
I did these sketches (it should be noted though, I did alot of copying and pasting so I could make different faces and stuff without redrawing the whole thing) as a bit of a study on the Predator species (aka Yautja), to see how well I could cartoonise them.My sister *celeste84 gave me a few tips, and I used some of these resources and reference images to help me with muscle and male and female anatomy (all of which can also be found in my favorites) :
In the final version (the coloured Predator) I was aiming for a slightly pudgy look, but to me, now he just looks like a normal Pred
I went for the leather-kilt-thing because this Predator goes commando; the usual budgie smugglers and g-strings tend to ride up his butt (it would have made more sense if he looked as pudgy as I had intended) so he opts for something a bit more loose.
This is the first study on heads:

I those chubby Pred bodies!
I thought the final version was chubby, but I didn't notice his muffin until you mentioned it. He just looked less toned than the lean model to me. But more of a distinction might still be a good idea.

Thanks; I'll work on the chubby ones til I get the look I'm going for (his name will be Maximus). Although the name is a bit of a pun on size, and that the story this character is intended for comedy, I also hope to use him to express a more serious moral that being chubby is not a bad thing, and that "fat" people aren't stupid (I really had the "stupid and fat" stereotyping in cartoons, movies and stories).

Ooh, sounds nice! It's always tough to express chubbiness rather than fatness in drawings. It's like there's no middle ground. There's hugely obese or skinny and nothing in between. >_< I hate that, as well, in that there's no average or anything in between. And, of course, that stereotype you mentioned is quite annoying. So I wish you lots of luck! It'll be nice to see something more forgiving.

You're right we don't usually see any characters in the middle; they're either skinny or huge, I think many people have the perception that we are either one or the other so that's how we end up with those kind of characters. And thanks! Yeah, hopefully I can avoid that stereotype.
