Complicated picture is complicated >> Took me two days to sketch it, color it, and get everything looking right.So, after that long stretch of Little Shen artwork, I decided to present the Shen in the roleplay between me and . Since it takes place after her fic Redeeming Light, Shen has begun to turn things around, found inner peace, and come to live at the Jade Palace where he helps beat up bandits and things like that. (I know it sounds implausible, but...IT MAKES MORE SENSE WHEN YOU KNOW THE WHOLE STORY!) And of course, the two most important ladies in his life, his Nana and his itty bitty kitty, are very proud of him.
I am fairly pleased with the digital coloring on this one. On the plus side, it's also the first time I've managed to make Shen's feet look anywhere close to halfway decent! (Seriously, am I the only person who has trouble with those?) But I didn't do a background, because...well, I already had a headache. No other reason.

I think Shen's story is based on a Chinese legend,which is not very famous because it only exists in southwest China.
A peacock emperor had three sons.The eldest prince was born with unusual gifts for creating things,which makes others think him strange. When he was 14, he invented a new thing that accidentally killed his little brother,the third prince.
However,the emperor believed that he slayed his brother on purpose.So he put his own son in a secret prison. Luckily on a dark night,a wolf and a leopard saved the eldest prince and took him out of prison.,and then they traveled around China for adventures.
Many years passed, The prince went through many adventures. At first,he hated everyone:
he hated his father,the emperor,for misunderstanding and prisoning him.
he hated his mother,because she didn't stand up for him and all she cared was being empress.
he hated all the people in capital,for they spread the rumor that he was born evil and killed brother.
Finally he let go of the past and became a hero after all the adventures. But when he returned to the capital,he found the old emperor had died. What's worse, his beloved girlfriend had been forced to agree to marry the second prince.
The second prince told him:"Before the emperor died,he regreted having prisoned you. He said you could be the heir if you ever returned. But you know,I want to be emperor too.you can make a choice: give the throne to me,and I wll cancel the marriage between me and your girlfriend."
The eldest prince chose to abandon being emperor and left the capital with his beloved. They lived a simple but happy life after that.

There is a rumor of an upcoming Kung Fu Panda 4, also saying Shen will return as the main antagonist. If it is true, it would be nice if they explored more of Shen's backstory with his earlier life, his parents, and the Soothsayer. The original background story would have made a lot more sense on why Shen really believed his parents never loved him. Also that story existing only in southwest China sounds a lot more like Shen's story, which must be where they got the inspiration for him. Something just tells me there is more to Shen than what we're told so far.
