I don't own the story, this is just my version of it. It belongs to whoever wrote it.

Jack and Isabelle returned to their house, Jack holding the so-called, "magic beans", in his hand. He was really nervous about how his mother would react, but he knew it wasn't going to be positive. The two walked inside, and saw their mother sweeping the floor. Isabelle looked up at Jack, and gave him a reassuring smile. Jack nodded at her, and nervously walked up to his mother, bracing himself for what was about to happen. "H..hey, Mom...", he said, and Heather looked up. "Oh, hey honey! Did you sell Alice?", she asked. "W..well, we certainly did..", Jack said, nervously. "What's that in you're hand? And why do you sound so nervous?", his mother asked, eyeing down at his hand. Jack looked over at his sister, and then back to his mother. "You see...Mom...we didn't sell Alice to the market..", he said, not ready for how his mother was going to react.
Heather's eyes widened, and stared at him. "Why not, Jack?! You know I told you to go to the market!", she cried, starting to get a little angry. "Look, we've met a man while walking to the market..", Jack started, but got cut off by mother. "Jack! I told you not to talk to anyone while on the path!", she scolded. Jack threw his hands up. "W..wait! Let me explain, please!", he cried. "He wouldn't stop following us, trying to tell us about something he had, and that he needed Alice. I kept telling him no, but then he started talking about these magic beans!", he explained, and opened his hand so his mother could see them. Heather stared at them in disbelief, she couldn't believe what she was hearing and seeing. "I was skeptical, but Isabelle believed him, and said I should buy them. Keep in mind, it was all her idea..", Jack said, frowning. Heather looked at Isabelle, who was looking at the floor a little nervously, and looked back at her son.
Heather sighed, and stared at Jack straight in the eye. "Jack, I am so disappointed in you. I asked you to simply sell Alice at the market, and instead you traded her for a couple of beans!", she said, a bit of anger in her voice. Jack's heart dropped a bit, not sure what to say. "We are going to starve, and you buy a couple of beans! A few beans won't save us from going hungry!", Heather said, raising her voice a bit. She suddenly grabbed the beans, and threw them out the window in anger. Jack looked out the window with shock, and then back at his mother. She didn't say anything, and stormed into another room. Jack and Isabelle stood there in silence. Jack felt incredibly guilty now. He hated seeing his mother upset, and now he felt like it was all his fault. Isabelle quietly walked up to her brother, and hugged him. "Told you we shouldn't have taken them...", Jack muttered. Isabelle looked out the window, and then walked outside. Jack noticed, and decided to follow her.
He found her near the now abandoned garden, in which the dirt was all dried up. Isabelle picked up the beans from the grass, and went over to the garden. She dug a hole, placed the beans in the ground, and covered them up. "What are you doing?", Jack asked, watching. "I'm planting the beans into the ground", Isabelle explained, getting up and brushing the dirt off her hands. "But that garden's in no condition to grow something! And besides, I've already upset Mom with those beans, why even bother planting them?", he asked. "Well, the hooded man said that we don't need water to plant them, and I just want to see if it will grow into something.", Isabelle said. Jack shook his head. "I still don't believe that guy, I think he was insane, Isabelle.", he said. "Well, we'll never know if we don't try, right big brother?", she asked. Jack just shook his head again, and started to walk into the house.
It was pretty quiet for the rest of the evening. Nobody said anything during dinner. Heather calmed down a bit, but Jack didn't want to say anything, in fear that he'd upset her again. After dinner, the kids went to their bedroom, and changed into their pajamas. They climbed into bed, and got comfortable. Jack stared out the window, looking at the stars. Isabelle suddenly broke the silence. "Big bro? Do you really think it's going to grow tomorrow?", she asked, thinking about the beans. Jack sighed, not wanting to talk about the beans anymore. "I don't know Izzy, just go to sleep.", he said, rolling over. "There not going to grow into anything...", he muttered, before drifting off. Meanwhile in the garden, the beans were starting to sprout underground, and during the quiet night, something started to come out of the ground fast. A villager who was walking by the house, saw the stems coming out, cried in shock, and ran away.
The next morning, Jack woke up first, and stretched. His eyes were still adjusting to the sunlight pouring out the window, so he rubbed them a bit. He shook his head, and looked out the window. But that's when he felt his jaw drop. Outside, in the garden, was a massive green beanstalk, vines and leaves protruding out of it. Jack stuck his head out the window, and gasped. It was so huge, that it extended up to the sky and the clouds, and he couldn't even see where it ended. "Holy...", he started, but couldn't say anything else. Unable to comprehend what he was seeing right now, he tucked his head back in, and shook his sister. "Izzy! Izzy! Wake up! Look out the window!", he cried. Isabelle woke up in shock, and looked at her brother. "What's wrong, Jack?!", she asked nervously. "Look out the window!", he repeated, and Isabelle looked. She gasped too, amazed but horrified at the beanstalk. "T..The magic beans really worked!", Isabelle cried, and Jack had to agree with her. Suddenly, Isabelle excitedly jumped out of bed, and scrambled to get out of the house. "Come on, Jack! We need to get a better view of this thing!", she said.
