Wow! these turned out well!THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU: for THESE fucking incredible tutorials: hoevelkamp.deviantart.com/gallβ¦
Frieso is a super nice guy and if you pester him he will help you fix what ever problems you encounter following his tutelage. Really can't thank him enough- incredibly generous with his time for someone so talented.
Breaking from the tutorial I added a very soft self illumination- dark dark blue- this gave the illusion of an atmosphere from head on. Also I had to play around with the sphere sizes to prevent overlapping weirdness also maxed out their segment count at like 200 for extra roundness.

next up, some moons, maybe some city lights and then add some ships flying around in there! who knows!
Also i've noticed something about space scapes- in trying to find reference images i found from far away REAL photos of earth look COMPLETELY flat, ie one sphere, the space between the atmosphere, clouds and ocean is almost non-existent, yet we all love that fuzzy atmosphere gradient that looks so spacey and cool along the edges! which is only found at near earth orbit levels, not at- say, the moon. just an observation, hopefully in the future we'll see more real earth photos from deep space and know for sure how it looks!

Wow man! This came out really awesome. Can't wait to see where you're going with your space art. Good idea about the soft self illumination. Kudos for that. It's always good to stray from any tutorial, just taking them as baseline and add your own ideas and inspirations.
