Description
chapter page for a fantasy RPG guidebook.I wanted the book design (as much of it as I had control over, anyway) to have this very ancient, illuminated manuscript "book of Kells" feel to it, with these elaborately detailed chapter numbersturnermohan.deviantart.com/art⦠, and top and bottom page borders featuing celtic dragons eating eachother's tailsturnermohan.deviantart.com/art⦠. for the chapter page (which appears six times in the book, but with a different number for each chapter) I thought it'd be cool to have the very stylized dragons in the page border sort of come to life, their heads on long, twisted necks spiraling inward, toward the chapter number.
This piece had a little bit of everything in it; pencil, watercolor, acrylic, white gouache, and a lot of scraping with an exacto knife for the highlights.

This is so lovely and detailed! Apart from the amazing knotwork, I also love the painted feel of this. The shading is so rich!

Haha, all my compliments are real, I'm too lazy to lie.
Anyway, your knotwork is much more elaborate than mine, it certainly is less sloppy!
Nevertheless, I'm glad you like it. So, you're very welcome, and thank YOU for YOUR kind words!

How do you not have more views?! These are amazing drawings. I love the amount of detail, yet looseness of your work. A definite watch!

oh my, I just love how you drew this, itΒ΄s so detailed and the dragons scales are sooooo awesome, such an amazing shading! And I really like how you played with light and darkness on the dragons body! ahh I can stop admiring it, I could look at it for ages (:

thanks! the dragon scales were impossible, it took a couple attempts to pin down the right formula for them, and I had to do several segments of their bodies many times over. I really appreciate you noticing, especially a fellow dragon painter!
