chapter page for a fantasy RPG guidebook.

I wanted the book design (as much of it as I had control over, anyway) to have this very ancient, illuminated manuscript "book of Kells" feel to it, with these elaborately detailed chapter numbersturnermohan.deviantart.com/art… , and top and bottom page borders featuing celtic dragons eating eachother's tailsturnermohan.deviantart.com/art… . for the chapter page (which appears six times in the book, but with a different number for each chapter) I thought it'd be cool to have the very stylized dragons in the page border sort of come to life, their heads on long, twisted necks spiraling inward, toward the chapter number.

This piece had a little bit of everything in it; pencil, watercolor, acrylic, white gouache, and a lot of scraping with an exacto knife for the highlights.
