Description One of a series of black and white illustrations done for a fantasy RPG guidebook. The game's due to come out later this year.
I've always been a HUGE fan of the works of J.R.R Tolkien, but not so much of the vast plethora of often less than-inspired imitators you'll find in the world of epic fantasy gaming. The thinking with the artwork usually seems to be more loud, more muscular, more amped-up and generally playing to the tastes of videogamers. For this job I wanted to do illustrations that drew heavily from the more quaint, ancient feel of european folklore and fairie tale. Our fine fellow here looks like he'd be more at home under the bridge in The Three Billy Goats Gruff than he would on some epic battlefield.

Ah yes, ancient feel of european folklore and fairie tale, as you said yourself! I have always prefered those, too.

Trolls have always been close to my heart ever since childhood, since we Finnish have our own traditional tales of trolls and similar beings too! Therefore, I shall add this piece of work to my favourites too.

thank you, that's kind of what i was shooting for, I think tolkien was too, especially in the early chapters of the hobbit, before he saw it as existing in the "middle earth" he'd imagined in storys like the fall of gondolin and beren and luthien.

Really awesome work, I love the detail. It reminds me much more of The Hobbit's "storybook" feel, while keeping an element of fright in sight.
