Oh, the JOY of having charcoal for a homework assignment.And when I say joy, I mean "WHY IS IT GETTING ALL OVER THE PLACE AND SMEARING EVERYWHERE? AH! NOW IT'S IN MY CLOTHES AND ON MY FACE!". I despise charcoal for one thing, and one thing only: It's messy. Very messy. Like, I can't believe how messy this stuff is.
Anyways, I was assigned a charcoal still-life, and they said to use anything from popular culture.
And thus, I grabbed the PS2, the only game system I wasn't using (as opposed to my Wii and my DS and my GBA), set it up on a flat surface, and viola. Art. (Though in retrospect, I should've included my Game Boy Color or my Game Boy Pocket in there as well. Ah, vintage videogaming...)
I just included the PS2 controller because it's honestly the best part in the picture. XD The PS2 itself isn't very interesting to look at. It's just this solid black wall that, thanks to its blackness, has caused several tons of charcoal to be permanently ground into my fingers. Thanks a lot, chunky PS2.
The Pringles can to the right is at a slant because the controller itself is at a slant.

As messy as charcoal is, this came out extremely nicely. I love the highlights on the controller and how you got the proportions right. You made it looks so realistic, it's unbelievable! Very nicely done!

The assignment was to take a trademarked food or a trademarked toy and put it in the artwork, so yeah, I had permission.
Stuff got all over the place. My roommate had to point out several times that I got charcoal on my face. XD

I lurve charcoal......my hands end up slightly blacker than when I use graphite though...but still...

It was kind of a pain in the butt to draw, but once you kind of divide the stupid controller into individual shapes, it becomes easier.

A lot of my blood, sweat, and tears went into this.
Mostly my tears, though. The second day of the project, I got charcoal in my EYE. XD I'm charcoal-retarded.
I did have fun shading it. It's pretty easy to shade in charcoal...

I probably will when the whole thing is finished, but since this is the only finished part of the charcoal drawing (which is debateable. Might tweak shading here and there) and it looks pretty cool, up it goes.
