This was part of a contest, you can read the rules for the contest here:
Below are the contest results.
Excellent responses. The factual answers aren't nearly as good as most of the stuff you guys came up with. I decided to award points purely on how much I enjoyed your answer. Stuff I hated, I gave a negative point, stuff I felt neutral about got zero points... things that were pretty factual responses to stuff that was kinda hard to spot got 1 point. Stuff I really liked got 1 to 5 points each, depending.
Here is what everything actually is:
Stuff that just seem to be reoccurring themes in my art:
Unicorns, Squids, UFOs, Creepy alien Starfish, a Peanut, Chess pieces, DOOM Plant (my new name for this!) Heart shaped heart (my new name for this!)
I purposefully added a lot of cryptids to this... I was hoping some of you would notice the cryptozoological theme and figure out all of them based on the few obvious ones. They are:
A megalodon, a Steller's Sea Cow, The Loch Ness Monster, The Dover Demon, a Thylacine, a Drop Bear.
In that same vein, albeit in a purely fictional sense, the thing on top of the UFO is the Giant Pink Sea Snail from Dr. Dolittle (the original, not the crappy remake.) Although I ended up making it look more like a Paper Nautilus with the tentacles (I was totally expecting a Chuthulu reference, which I got.) Ironically, I ended up not really making it pink in the final. Doh!
The obligatory Transformers references:
Optimus Prime, The Autobot Matrix of Leadership... and if you squint, you can spot Soundwave... maybe
Completely random stuff that I inserted for filler:
A key, a Keytar, Trogdor the Burninator, an anchor, a donut, a burger, an alien, a banana, the planet earth.
Once I started painting I realized I needed more filler.... so cheated and added a few things to the painting that weren't in the sketch, they are:
A squirrel wearing a Fez, a phonographic record player, a crystal (all of these are arguably references to past artworks.), a lit candle, and a Klingon Batleth
Someone asked "Why a fish?" This painting is for an upcoming themed show at the dA called, "Gone Fishing", in which the theme is basically.... well... fish. I was trying to come up with an original concept for my entry, and the idea of a fish 'fishing' at a claw machine is what I ended up with. To give credit where it's due, I seem to recall Savannah helping me come up with the initial concept. Thanks Sav.

One of my friends came up with the best answer to this, actually. Fish is angry because his car keys got locked inside the Claw Machine and he's frustratingly spending all his cash trying to get them back out. (This works because there actually are a set of keys painted in there, if you look closely.)

Lol I think I finally found the key! Directly beside the squid, right?
Well that's not very wise thinking for the fish. Instead he should've gotten an employee and requested/demanded that they open the machine from the back and get his key out

Yup, you found 'em.
Yeah, it's not very wise of him. Though I'd cut the poor guy some slack; Fish have never been known for their intelligence.
