Description
Oh no, I just finished reading Pluto and now ffffffffffffffffffffffff my heart… all on the ground. Just, everywhere. Urusawa, why you doin’ this to me? >_<So I had to draw some art for it, because I enjoyed it quite a lot! And this tallies my total number of “mangas I’ve actually bothered to fully read” to… 3! Heheh. Seriously, though it’s a really good story if you’ve got some free time and want to read a graphic novel, and the art is really top notch. And it reminded me just how much of a soft spot I have for Atom/Astro (whatever you wanna call him). Such a cute little bubbie! I'm not really a die hard fan of the original series or whatever, but I've always liked the Astro Boy character himself. Because robots are sweet.

Well.. at least you already bothered to read more ... 3 mangas than me! x'DDD
I actually have som on my computer... still procrastinating about it xD
I don't know about Astro Boy. Can I read this manga even without any past knowledge about Astro Boy? Oo Because you made it look interesting LOL

Yeah, you really don't need to know much. All you need to know is that Astro/Atom is a robot in a future where robots are as common as people, but still discriminated against. And it's helpful to know that Dr. Tenma is Atom's creator (he made Atom to replace his dead son, but later sold him when he realized Atom wasn't couldn't fill the gap.) and that Dr. Ochanomizu is the one who "adopts" Atom after Tenma sells him. Oh, and also Atom has a robot family that was made for him later so he could have a more normal lifestyle. That's only relevant because this story features his sister pretty heavily.
Other than that you're basically good. Most things are explained within the story, and if they aren't explained it's because there's really no need.

The first time I hear about this manga ! But your fanart is really cool, though I probably miss everything by not being into the fandom, ahaha. Sounds interesting, though !

Thanks! ^^ And yeah, it might be relevant to know at least a tiny bit about Astro Boy before reading, but you don't need to know too much.

Honestly, that's probably enough. XD All you need to know is that Astro Boy's a robot in a world where robots are normal, but still discriminated against. The characters are fairly circumstantial, so they generally explain who they are. I guess the only ones it might be relevant to know beforehand is that Dr. Tenma is Astro's creator, and Dr. Ochanomizu is the one who took care of Astro after Tenma abandoned him. Oh, also, Tenma created Astro initially to be a replacement for his deceased son, but sold him when he realized Astro couldn't ever really replace his kid. That's basically the backstory for the entire Astroboy show in a nutshell. lol!

Seriously, dat art.
You're style makes me want to get so much better. It feels like how I want my art to feel like - idk if that makes sense. The point is that it's very inspirational and it doesn't make me hate myself at the same time. LOL
anywayyy this is a really cool piece. Never heard of Pluto, but I wanna know what the picture means lol Who's it written by? Maybe I can get my library to order it or something.

Well thank you! ^^ And I'm glad I could help inspire you to want to improve!
And yeah, it's a pretty sweet comic that you don't really need to know too terrible much about the source material to enjoy. (But a basic knowledge of the Astro Boy back-story might be beneficial just to keep the large amount of characters sorted out) It's written by Naoki Urusawa, and it's a little 8 book series retelling one of the story arcs from the original comics, reinterpreted to a more modern style/story telling. It's like a murder mystery/political story... with lots of sweet robots. XD

Wow, this is beautiful. I've been following your art for quite some time, and I was floored to see Pluto fanart! It is not terribly well-known in the USA (tragic) so I don't often see awesome fanart. Your Astro is fantastic

Oh my god, I love that comic so much!!!
I'm a huge Astro Boy fan
Great job on this, it's a beautiful piece of art. You captured the intensity of the scene where he wakes from his coma.

Thank you! ^^ And seriously, when Astro "died" I was like because I was really worried he was going to come back and be like, pyshco-killer robot. Because since this is kind of a re-imagining, I didn't know how far they were going to take it.

WendyMartin In reply to Turtle-Arts [2014-05-28 03:44:00 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, and he did get pretty crazy at the end there especially during his battle with Pluto (awesome freaking battle btw)
I was happy when he had his little moment with the snail and turned back to normal
such and emotional comic! XD

Turtle-Arts In reply to WendyMartin [2014-05-28 03:48:58 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it was pretty sweet. Though I admit I was a little bummed that he never busted out any of his actual weapons. (Like, no lazers or rockets or whatever) But not enough to make the battle disappointing by any means. XD
And I liked that he turned back to "normal" but that he still kind of retained all the negative aspects too. I think it really adds another layer of complexity to his personality.
But omg, when Gesicht finally died I was like "NNOOOOOO!!!! He has to go on vacation with his wife!!!!"

WendyMartin In reply to Turtle-Arts [2014-05-28 05:03:48 +0000 UTC]
Haha i know, right?
I figured the artist didn't include any of his actual weapons in order to maintain the realistic style of the characters or something :/ I still would have liked to see them
I really wish this comic was longer or had more moments with Atom.

Turtle-Arts In reply to WendyMartin [2014-05-28 15:31:34 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, but I was thinking maybe he'd have some cool way of drawing it or whatever. But it's okay, because as much as I would've like to have seen Atom blast Pluto in the face, the scene was still cool. XD
And yes, me too. >_< I would've been happy with another chapter or two focusing on Atom's part. But Gesicht was cool too, so I didn't mind do much of it being about him.
