I draw them with a tablet and animate them with SynfigStudio. I have a youtube video showing a timelapse of how I drew Ethan: www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4bHd3… . I was thinking of making some youtube videos about how to use Synfig (the program is free). I could let you know when I finish that

A tablet isn't necessary, a mouse works too. I usually use a tablet to draw complex shapes and then a mouse to when animating.
