here’s the film i’ve been working on all year to get my BFA in Animation! “Flicker is a film about a tumultuous moment in the friendship of two young boys, Avery and Matt. after a violent outburst from Avery, Matt must learn to overcome his resentment for his friend’s actions.” that’s my synopsis at least - it’s a film about empathy. something i feel very strongly about
CW: bruises, blood, and this film deals with the context of physical abuse
there's no other story i'd have rather dedicated a whole year to working on and i'm pretty happy with how it turned out. although i have decided i probably won't do something like this again with Matt and Avery. as much as i'm glad i did it, i don't know how well the animated short medium fits them, so right now i'm thinking i'll go back to writing comics about them and doing more experimental things with animation. but it was such a good experience, and i hope you guys enjoy it.

I love your character AND this short so much. Your art style is fantastic and seeing it animated so nice and smoothly is really nice! The voice actors fit the characters really well and sound nearly exactly like how I would imagine they'd sound.
and I love how, in just a few short minutes, you got me to feel for, and empathize with Matt and Avery (plus, the hug made me smile,,,)
I'm looking forward to seeing what you do further down the line when it comes to animation, as this was a great showcase of your talents!!

I've gushed about the voiceactors before, but I gotta say it again...
they were all such good fits!!! The characters really came to life, and to see them all interact was really cool!!
That poor bird though...
The fight scene was super intese! I love how you used the lighting to make it feel really eerie and panicked, it worked super well!
And all the backgrounds!!!!!!
Such amazing forests! I love the textures and brushstrokes you used, and all the colours look super vibrant yet really natural!
I gotta say, my fave background has got to be the one in the scene with Matt sitting against a tree surrounded by thick ivy on the floor.
It looked amazing... you've gotta give me some tips on backgrounds pls ;;
The soundtrack was also a really good fit!
It fit the action on screen, while not being too overpowering.
I loved the rustic feeling it gave the forest.

I love how different Matt and Avery reacted to the situations they found themselves in, it was really cool to see such different characters have such a strong friendship.
it felt really natural, I loved seeing them interact!

I can imagine it was a stressfull couple of months, animating is not an easy job
but the end result is astonishing!!!
give yourself some well-earned rest if you can!

this was without a doubt the hugest project i've ever taken on, i've never worked so hard (and so constantly) on anything in my life before, so it feels really good to finally be done. i'm definitely trying to relax a bit, but at the same time i can't stop scheming other artistic projects i want to start lol!!
but at least i can sleep in a little bit every day now heheh..
and thanks 4 sticking around to see it come 2 fruition! i know you're not as active on here as much anymore so i really especially appreciate your support. glad you're still getting a kick out of what i make

I have watched the movie once now, and then I rewatched only the scene where the bullies appear to understand what Matt actually sees there, because I didnt get that clearly in the first run. Just so you know what situation I'm writing from.
A very nice little story arc, put into quite beautiful pictures. Especially the faces and expressions of the protagonists show a long history of preoccupation with the forms. The music fits, and the interactions seem realistic to me. The colour change was fascinating (and I think I know the palette from some of your drawings 
I think I stumbled upon some rare not-so-fluid animation bits, like moving legs and so. But since this is a thesis film and they were parts I could easily complement in my mind - because you focused on the important and complex parts - that did not really displease me.
Overall: Congratulations!

your art has such a nice, balmy vibe to it,,, yet it really fits the mood of the story and draws you in from start to end!!! and i just have to say, I LOVE?? how the animation looks when Avery yells?? such a unique character design/art style!!! that poor boy tho... huffs. he gave those bullies what they had coming to them.
i love Matt and Avery's dynamic so much! i really hope to see more of them in the future, if you're going to make comics of them n stuff,,, aaaa THANKS FOR SHARING! < 8 ' DD
