Description
In celebration of going to Animethon 21, the week before (the longest running anime convention in Canada...that's right, WE were doing it BEFORE it was cool!), I decided to add to my Danny Phantom cosplay collection (my first two pics are here... and ).To be honest, I was hoping to crank these pics out much more frequently, but other projects just seem to keep taking priority.
This pic features the rest of the Fenton family getting in on the fun. Jack has come out, dressed as Android 8 from "Dragonball" (one of the few anime characters whose shoes he's big enough to fill), Maddie as Dorothy Wayneright from "The Big O" (matching Jack's costume by dressing up as an android in her own right...or "Wayneright", as the case may be), Jazz as Asuka Tenjoin from "Yu-Gi-Oh GX" (I was originally planning to cosplay her as Orihime Inoue from "Bleach", but Jazz hasn't got the figure for it...truthfully, she hasn't got the figure for Asuka, either, but they're much closer, in terms of personality) and Danielle as Pan from "Dragonball GT" (''nuff said).
Jack and Maddie's skin tones obviously look different, since they've made themselves up to more closely resemble the complexions of their characters. And I had to fool with Jazz and Danielle's hair a bit. That aside, though, I'm very pleased with how the pic turned out...especially Maddie, since this is only my second time drawing her and my first time drawing her without her Haz-Mat hood on. Truthfully, I might have gotten this done much sooner, but I kept taking time out to admire the work since I was so happy with how it was progressing. Hopefully, everyone else feels the same way.^_^

This pic is golden! I have to say you did a great job matching everyone's cosplay! I have to say, clever of you to have Danielle dress up as Pan from "Dragon Ball GT" Their personalities are very similar when you think about it!

Still, Jazz doesn't strike me as the kind of person who plays card games. That sounds more like Tucker's thing.

Glad you like the pic. Yeah, the point was to find a cosplay that matched everyone, in looks, personality and/or interest. In Danielle's case, Pan was a pretty obvious choice.

Well that's an interesting idea. The most recent Danny Phantom fanart I've done is Danny, Sam, Tucker, and Danielle paired up with customized mobile suits from the various Gundam anime shows for a Danny Phantom/Gundam Build Fighters crossover story I'm doing.

Gundam Build Fighters is something of a parody to those collection battle anime shows like Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh but they use models of mobile suits. The battles are done with this battle system that uses these strange particles that affect the plastic used to make the Gundam models as well as make the effects of the weapons so realistic that you would think you were watching a real mobile suit battle. The parody in the series is mostly tongue-in-cheek where even the characters comment on how ridiculous it is for people to be so serious about the battles when there is nothing at stake. It is also filled with so much Gundam references that you have to be a hard core Gundam fan to see the more well hidden ones. As for why Tucker was given a Dom, well all of the model kits use the same type of armor which is the plastic which basically put all of the model kits on equal footing. So Tucker's Gunner DOM Trooper actually stands a chance of winning matches, then there is also the fact that in Gundam Seed Destiny (a Gundam series I actually hate), the DOM Trooper was actually overpowering that none of the three DOMs were destroyed. The most damage one of them got was its left leg getting blown off but it was still able to fight and win.

Well, I didn't mind Gundam Seed Destiny (if for no other reason than because Gundam Seed and Gundam Wing are the only two series I've actually SEEN).
As for this series, it sounds something along the lines of Custom Robo or Gotcha Force, so it wouldn't be hard to see it as a parody. Mind you, G Gundam could also be seen as a parody, as well, seeing as how it didn't follow the "traditional" Gundam formula.
Ah, I understand your explanation, now.

Yeah that's pretty much what Build Fighters is like and now it has a sequel called Gundam Build Fighters Try. I don't know if Sunrise and Bandai will have Try uploaded on YouTube with subtitles like they did with Build Fighters, but I hope so because fans from both sides of the world loved Build Fighters and wanted more. I also liked how the writing staff put so much thought into who uses what mobile suit such as how one of the older American characters used a Tallgeese while the younger American character used a Gundam from the Gundam Seed Astray manga. It kind of shows a generational gap between the fans because nearly all the adults use something from the original Gundam timeline.

Well even if Sunrise and Bandai don't subtitle the new season, I'm sure someone will do it and post the episodes as fast as possible. Either way I'm excited to see more of Gundam Build Fighters, it's nice to have a couple of Gundam shows that aren't always so focused on a major war. It will also be interesting as Build Fighters Try will be airing along with another Gundam series made by Yoshiyuki Tomino, the creator of the Gundam franchise.

So we'll have the continuation of a Gundam series that deviates from the traditional formula while we'll have a new series kicking off, that will most likely RETURN to the original formula. Having said that, though, I'm guessing that Gundam Build Fighters, like all the Gundam franchises, has at least ONE masked man in it.^_^

Well... there was a Char clone, who for most of the series (it's a 25 episode long anime) wore sunglasses until episodes 23 and 24, but there was a masked GIRL who wore a helmet like mask during most of her battles.
The other Gundam series actually returns to the original timeline but it is so far into the future that it uses a new calendar marker.

TuxedAaron In reply to Hellscream02 [2014-08-21 14:03:59 +0000 UTC]
Sounds par for the course. Still sticking with the parody theme, it seems, because in whatever Gundam series, whoever wore the mask was generally a man.
There's an ORIGINAL timeline? I don't know. When it comes to Gundam, I generally don't try and think about what happened when. It's the same with franchises like Castlevania and the Legend of Zelda. Sure, the creators have gone out of their way to establish canon timelines for these series, but I don't generally go out of my way to try and wrap my head around them. Especially since there's always someone who'll argue "Wait...that COULDN'T have happened at THIS point in time, because that's when THAT thing happened!"

Well the original timeline was known as the Universal Century which is still the longest timeline in the Gundam meta-series. The other timelines were originally regarded as alternate universes until the Turn A Gundam series which is regarded as the official final Gundam series since Yoshiyuki Tomino intended for Turn A Gundam to be the final story of all things Gundam with the exception to Build Fighters and Build Fighters Try. Granted some people would debate over that since Gundam Seed, Gundam Seed Destiny, Gundam 00, and Gundam AGE came after Turn A Gundam, but it has been established that Turn A Gundam is the Distant final Gundam series, so Gundam still has a long way to go before it dies out. Luckily for causal Gundam viewers they don't need to know about the Universal Century to find any connection to G Gundam, Gundam Wing, Gundam X, and so on because the only things that remain the same is that there will be mobile suits, there will be space colonies, and there will always be war.

Don't worry I wouldn't blame you if you did fall asleep after reading that. If I were to go into deal about the history of Gundam, I would have fallen asleep before I even reached the half way point of the original timeline. The best way to understand Gundam is three simple things: giant robots, war, and people dying, that's it.

TuxedAaron In reply to Hellscream02 [2014-08-22 03:46:15 +0000 UTC]
Well, yes, people dying. It's a lot about personal philosophy, too, although that tends to walk hand-in-hand with personal STUPIDITY as well. Like in Gundam Seed, when Athrun is lamenting the death of his friend, Nicol, the only thing that kept going through MY head was that this was a kid who clearly had no business being on a battlefield. So why didn't Athrun stop him from signing up with the PLANTs military, aside from just plain ego?

Hellscream02 In reply to TuxedAaron [2014-08-22 12:58:20 +0000 UTC]
Well I never cared about personal philosophy in any Gundam series that came are the Universal Century because no one could do it as well as when Amuro Ray and Char Aznable during Char's Counterattack because the two of them were given a great deal of character development ever since the original Mobile Suit Gundam as well as the events of Zeta Gundam. Gundam Seed and Destiny was just filled with personal stupidity and petty grudges as demonstrated by many of the villain characters.
As for Athrun lamenting over Nicol's death, chances are he didn't meet Nicol until after he had signed up or something like that. Of course the remastered version of Gundam Seed made things worse for Nicol by redoing the scene and making it look like Nicol ran into the anti-ship sword' beam blade of the Strike Gundam when Kira was trying to dodge. However one does not position a deadly weapon with a beam blade facing the attacker if his intent was to dodge the attack.
Take a look, the clip on the left is the original while the clip on the right is the remastered version.

Some fans see the remastered version as if it was trying to make the whole thing Nicol's fault rather than a simple case of Kira reacting in a way one expects.

Well, I've seen the original, I don't need to see any "remastered" version.
Personally, I think, since the 90s, Gundam has turned into the Japanese answer to boy bands. At that time, Sailor Moon was all about the girls, so Gundam evolved into the venue for young guys. Gundam Seed, I think , tried to pull away from that A LITTLE by giving the girls something to do, but even then, it was still, primarily, a boy's club. I suppose it's only natural that the storytelling would suffer a bit, in light of that, seeing as how a teenage boy's mind works, reacting, instead of reasoning.

Hellscream02 In reply to TuxedAaron [2014-08-23 02:28:58 +0000 UTC]
Well the remastered vision isn't worth looking at.
Ironically though, Yoshiyuki Tomino never intended for Gundam to be directed only towards teenage boys. Rather he wanted it to be for everyone who wanted something that nobody had ever done back in the late 70's and early 80's. Back in the day when he was in charge he didn't care who the target audience was supposed to be because he wanted to show everyone his work. However Bandai had no interest in making Gundam exclusive to only boys because they wanted Gundam to sell model kits, so Gundam is more like Transformers in terms of existing only to sell toys.

Ah...like what some people would say about Star Wars remastered, huh?
Well, Japan's going through a marketing renaissance of sorts, much like North America did in the 80s/early-90s. And it's about knowing your audience and what will get their attention. I mentioned Sailor Moon before, because it targeted a wider audience than was anticipated. It got the attention of the female demographic because it revolved around girls and the girls were strong. It got the attention of the MALE demographic because the girls were hot. In a way, Gundam in the 90s became a mirror image of that. It gave the guys all that testosterone-fueled action to enjoy, while giving the girls cute, angst-y boys to look at.
