Description
Well, I promised everyone something different for my 20,000 Hit Commemoration, and here it is. Just as I chose to branch from my Kim Possible and Danny Phantom fanart into DCAU, I've now chosen to branch out into the world of GARGOYLES, as well. And now seemed like as good a time as any to trot it out. All in all, I'd say it's pretty good for a first attempt, but don't take my word for it. Take a look for yourself and feel free to tell me what you think.^_^Oh, and for those of you who are wondering what's up with the background, well, you'll have to read my Gargoyles fanfic to find out. I completed that project several months ago and only posted it on fanfiction.net (my Author name is Aaron12 for any who want to look for it there). But I also chose to post the story here now, as an accompaniment to this new pic. For any of you who'd like to check it out, I hope you enjoy it just as much. Remember, comments are ALWAYS appreciated.^_^

Well, as you continue through the story, you'll find that he pretty much enjoys himself as much as possible. Basically, he's got his father's heart and his mother's attitude. His muscle and her skill. Add to that, the exuberance of a man who, at the age of 25, is still very much a teenager in terms of Gargoyle aging, and he keeps things interesting.
One negative trait he does possess, however, is, he inherited BOTH of his parents' tempers. And as you'll soon discover, getting him angry is NOT a good thing.

awesome, what form is he on an every day basis. Gargoyle or human. Or does he transform every night.

TuxedAaron In reply to Peaceblossom262 [2013-07-25 03:30:50 +0000 UTC]
Okay, well, it's best to start at the beginning. When Adam is born, he's 100% human, because his Gargoyle genes have only started to grow. This is because that after Gargoyle eggs are laid, it takes them 10 years to incubate and hatch. So his Gargoyle genes don't fully develop until he's 10 years old. After that, his aging slows to more or less equal Gargoyle aging.
What this also means is that during the day, he's human (his Gargoyle genes are dormant). At night, those genes become active, but he can still keep his human form. However, even in his human state, he still has access to the Gargoyle strength and a lot of the physical durability, even if he doesn't have the wings, fangs, tail and talons. At night, though he can also transform into his Gargoyle form. This, however, can be very problematic, depending on HOW he transforms. See, when he changes, it creates a rush of adrenaline in his body, much like when Gargoyles awake from stone sleep. This adrenaline offsets any pain he may feel during the change, but it can also seriously mess with his thought process. If he transforms on his own (and he CAN transform at will), he can handle it. But if he transforms as a result of getting injured or angry, well...you know what the Hulk's all about, right?
And this can be a problem, because like I said, he inherited BOTH his parents tempers. So you can imagine how easy it can be to get this guy ticked off.
However, in either case, whether he transforms in the good way OR the bad way, once he's in his Gargoyle form, he can't change back until sunrise, when he turns to stone. But it's only for a brief moment, because about a minute later, his Gargoyle genes become dormant again and he breaks out of his shell as a human once more. That's pretty much how it works for him.

TuxedAaron In reply to Sol37 [2013-07-24 13:42:14 +0000 UTC]
Well, he is, a little bit. Thing with Adam (that's his name, in case you haven't read the fic, which I totally recommend you do if you want to learn more about him *SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT!*) is that he's about as close to the total package as you can get. He's got his father's heart and his mother's attitude. His muscle and her skill. Add to that, the youthful exuberance of a guy who, at the age of 25, is still very much a teenager in Gargoyle aging and he keeps things interesting.
But as for the psychotic part, that comes mostly if he transforms wrong (and you'll see what I mean if you read the fic). When Adam transforms (which he can do at will, though obviously, only at night), it creates an adrenaline surge within his body, much like a Gargoyle waking from stone sleep. This offsets any pain he may feel in the transformation, but it can also mess with his mind pretty good. If he's transforming on his own, he can control it. But if his transformation is triggered by getting angry or injured, well...I'm sure you've read a Hulk comic, right?
And that can be a problem, because one thing he inherited form BOTH his parents is their tempers. So you can imagine how easy it can be to tick this guy off.

Oh yeah, Gargoyles and KP are definitely tied for the best show Disney's ever done. I call it a tie because to compare the two is totally an apples-to-oranges argument (KP being a comedy while Gargoyles was a drama).
Glad you like the pic. Hopefully, you enjoy the fanfic this pic came with just as much (especially now that I had to break up Chapter 5 so it could fit...stupid file cap on text submissions ).

You know, to be honest, I never even thought to read a Gargoyles fanfic but since I saw your drawing and I remember how much I loved that show (totally wish they were still showing it on Disney XD, even my mom was watching it) I'll go ahead and check out your fic this weekend
And yea I know what you mean, I don't know if you feel the same as I do but personally, I think Disney's latest animations have gone a bit downhill. They're rather low grade to me. The details in Gargoyles is amazing and the drama so intense and wonderful. KP had a good story line to it aside from it being a comedy. Hell, I love the video games too But now they have Gravity Falls which when I first heard of it I thought it was a mimic of scooby doo, only without a group of 5 mystery solvers. Not to mention that ninja one now as well. I apologize if you watch and like those but I think Disney has lowered its standards in animation.

Well, I hope you like what you see when you get to it. As the pic suggests, it's going to get pretty interesting.^_^
As for Gargoyles, well, Disney XD showing it is primarily what got me into it again (and also what inspired me to write "The Path Unfolding"). Only problem with the Disney XD airings is that the show's been edited to within an inch of its life (much like the WB networks are editing the reruns of Justice League Unlimited). So the only way to see the show in its purest form anymore is to get it on DVD...which took Disney 15 years to do (not to mention that you can only get the second part of Season 2 if you have some kind of cockamamie Disney Club membership...or if you buy it on eBay). It's just one demonstration as to how Disney has just never given any of their TV properties a fair shake.
Well, I would say that MOST of Disney's animations have gone downhill, but not all of them. There are a couple of diamonds in the rough. MotorCity was a show I didn't mind at all. I actually found it to be very much equivalent to Darkwing Duck in terms of tone (comedy interwoven with drama...quite well, too). Tron: Uprising was also a show I cared for a great deal. It's just a shame that both shows only went for one season...and Tron: Uprising ended on a cliffhanger of all things.
Well, Tron: Uprising does have one other knock against it (one shared by the movie, Tron Legacy, although I personally feel that Uprising is the superior product). And that's if you haven't seen the original Tron movie from the 80s, you're really not gonna know what you're looking at. There's no exposition here, nothing to ease you into the experience. You're expected to be going in, already knowing about the world of Tron and how The Grid operates. And if you don't...well, you're gonna get lost pretty quickly.
Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja COULD be something good, if it gets the chance to evolve from being JUST a slacker comedy. It's not much right now, but the rapid-fire barrage of one-liners does keep me coming back.
Other shows, however, I have to admit, I don't really care for. I know my brother likes Gravity Falls, but mostly because the woman who voices Mabel is a comedienne he likes. But shows like Gravity Falls and Kick Buttowski I'm more or less lukewarm towards. I mean, they do what they do (and to their credit, they do it well)...but do they really need to exist? Would we really miss them if they weren't there? Add to that, the fact that Disney is going the same direction as Nickelodeon these days and focusing mostly on tween sitcoms (which I won't even dignify by discussing here).
And then we come to Phineas and Ferb...oh God *exasperated sigh*. It has GOT to be said, I have never been so completely, utterly perplexed as to how this show has managed to keep going for so long (even Family Guy's endurance didn't confuse me this much). I'll say it, these guys have extracted a PREPOSTEROUS amount of material from this one-dimensional concept (it's like this black hole that they keep just pulling ideas out of). But the fact that you're basically just watching the exact same story being told over and over again, ad nauseum, it just begs the obvious question, at what point do you ask yourself why you're still watching this? You KNOW what's going to happen every single time. Is there really anything this show has to hold my interest (except for MAYBE the fact that that Linda and Vanessa are kinda hot)?
Well, sorry for the rant. But I hope I made some decent points. And I hope you enjoy the fic when you get to it.^_^

Oh no the ranting was fine. I'm not really into shows like Tron or Motorcity. It may have an interesting storyline too it but the animation is what gets me. Everything now is either CGI or very crappy drawn animation. I'm not big on CGI. As for Phineas and Ferb, maybe I'm simple minded but I like it. If you think about it, everyday people in reality do the same thing as well. For me, every Monday to Thursday I wake up and go to school then I come home, do homework, watch tv, go to bed. Once in awhile I'll go to the grocery store or some other store and on the weekends I'm at home. Its a basic, boring but repetitive lifestyle and most people, whether they realize it or not, do the same repetition as well. So the repetition in Phineas and Ferb doesn't bug me, its life. From my view on the show, they do teach small lessons here and there, maybe its minor but its there.
As for Nickelodeon the only good thing I see lately are the nick rewinds. I just wish they'd show more than what they're showing at the moment. Hey Arnold is great that they have that back but it'd be nice to have some other shows as well. Its so limited right now on what they're re-showing. The sad part of it is that during the day they show the low standard kid shows that just seem plain out stupid and at night they show the nick rewinds. Some of the old shows of Nick should be shown to the younger generations now, so that even they can see what they are watching, now isn't as great as they thing. I feel as if any kid watching those shows might go a bit off the deep end by acting as characters and such that they see and like. I apologize if this part offends you in advanced but its like those shows on Cartoon Network now as well. Adventure time and Regular Show seems so stupid, but almost everyone either watches it or cosplays it. I don't see what's so great about shows like that. I don't see the appeal nor do I like the fact that Teen Titans go has downgraded the actual Teen Titans. Its a show of their life without them fighting enemies, which to me, is boring.
And don't worry, I'm sure I'll like it, you're definitely pretty smart after this discussion we've gotten into so I trust it'll be great!

Well again, when it came to MotorCity, I liked the skilled balancing act they did between comedy and drama, even if the animation wasn't spectacular. As for Tron: Uprising, well, considering that it's like the series, "Reboot", in that it takes place inside a computer world, the fact that it was CGI only made logical sense.
As for Phineas and Ferb, I don't know. I guess I'm always looking for a steady progression, wanting to see something get somewhere. That's kind of my way of thinking with my fanfics.
As for some of the current shows, well, I lump Adventure Time together with Spongebob, myself. It's kind of for that eccentric crowd that kind of wants to go on an acid trip without actually going on an acid trip. What bugs me is that so many shows these days are trying to be Spongebob clones.
Teen Titans, I haven't seen yet (at least the new stuff). I'll admit to being curious, but I probably wouldn't place it in my top 10.
Some shows these days are pretty smartly written, though. I think Spectacular Spider-Man is the best written Spider-Man animated series to date. A far cry from the 90s series' incessant melodrama. It's just a shame that it got canceled, just as they were gearing up for Season 3, when they were ready to bring in guys like Hobgoblin and the Scorpion (the same unfortunate fate that befell the Masters of the Universe reboot, just as Hordak and She-Ra were about to come into play). Personally, I wanted to see SSM Hobgoblin, especially if it turned out to be Roderick Kingsley (in my opinion, the best of all the goblins, Green OR Hob). I was also curious to see if Eddie Brock would have ended up becoming Anti-Venom. Ultimate Spider-Man isn't terrible, but the non-stop slapstick sometimes overshadows what should be more serious moments (although I did appreciate the Spider-Ham episode).
I think Transformers Prime is a well-written series. I also think Nickelodeon's foray into Ninja Turtles is pretty good, too.
Just as a point of interest, I figured I'd point out that I'm also writing a Danny Phantom fanfic series and a Kim Possible fanfic series. I know you like KP, but if you're interested in Danny as well (and if you don't mind a shameless plug), you might want to check those out as well. Just throwing that out there.^_^

I can see you point on Tron, its just that I'm not big on shows like that. Some can get by but honestly, I think the best kinds of cartoons are the ones drawn and from the 90s and prior. I don't know what they thought about when the millenniumum hit but most of the shows now are just unbearable. I'm really not sure how well you'll like Teen Titans Go but a friend of mine was staying with me for a week and we ended up watching it because she loves it. Watching it I laughed yes but I honestly thought it was rather stupid.
I've never seen transformers, never got into it but it is one of the ones I do want to eventually watch. As for Spider Man, I can see your point, I love the new one but there are points where the humor takes away from it. One of the ones I remember loving though that was Marvel was X-Men. Even when X-Men Evolution came out, I watched and enjoyed it. They seem to stop the good shows for the ones that no one really cares for now.
Oh no problem with a little plug in. Once I'm free I'll check them out. And I do love Danny, when it first came out I loved him lol. I must have disliked every character in there except Danny himself when it first started, now I enjoy the show entirely when I get a chance to see it

Well, I've still got a thing for the hand-drawn stuff, myself. I just like the stuff Tron Uprising did.
As for Teen Titans Go!, I have no illusions that I'll think it's great. I'm just curious to give it a look. If you'd like something a little closer to the original show (and if you don't mind ANOTHER shameless plug ^_^), you could probably check out my Justice League Unlimited story, "Point of View", which sees Batman and Wonder Woman teaming up with Night wing and Starfire to take on...well, to tell you would ruin the surprise. I'm also planning a few other fanfics to help graduate the Teen Titans characters into the mainstream DCAU.
With Transformers Prime, though, I do recommend you watch it (You should be able to catch it on Netflix if you have the service...well, at least the first couple of seasons). The thing about Transformers Prime is that it takes all the best elements from every Transformers franchise that's come before...the original 80s series, the Beast Wars/Beast Machines series, the various animes...even the movies. And they've combined them into something that really works well.
As for Spider-Man, well, again, I don't think Ultimate Spider-Man is terrible. I just think that Spectacular Spider-Man was the best written. It takes things more seriously than Ultimate Spider-Man and it isn't dripping in melodrama like the 90s series was. I feel the same way about X-Men: Evolution, too. It's my favorite X-Men series so far. Again, it avoids all the melodrama of the 90s series. I especially liked how Scott and Jean's relationship..."evolved" so naturally in that series...unlike Wolverine and the X-Men, where Scott was basically just using Jean as an emotional crutch to avoid dealing with his personal problems.
Anyway, I know I'm asking you read almost all of my fanfics at this point (between Gargoyles and KP and DP and JLU). I hope you're able to find the time and if you do, I hope yo like what you see. And comments are always welcome.^_^

Ah, down pat, you say. Well, I'm glad you think so. I will say that this is definitely one of my pics that looks better when you're sitting right at your computer. Shrunk down or from a distance, you can't see all the fine little details in it.
I did have to make one significant compromise with Goliath and I think you see what it is right off the bat. Originally, I wanted Goliath's wings to be open, so I could really show him off. Unfortunately, I quickly realized that if I did that, I wouldn't have any room for Adam in the background (who, I think you'll agree, is the heart of the bit with this pic). So I had to fold his wings in.
Still, I guess that was a minor trade-off, in the big scheme. To be honest, I almost compromised Angela right out of the picture. I was having such a hard time with the side profile and I was running out of time fast (I was starting to think that I should maybe try to crawl before I walk). But when I gave myself one more chance, I FINALLY got her right. And I'm glad I stuck it out, because she turned out to be one of the best parts of this pic.^_^
