This is absolutely astounding. I've thought about using photoshop to play with some of my fractals, but wasn't sure exactly what I should DO with them.

Maybe you could help me out with that?

Ya totally. First of all, I use Apophysis 3d hack and it's set to automatically render fractals as PNG files, (idk if this is default or what but it just does it automatically now), so all my fractals maintain quality (always high res/quality renders) but more importantly, transparency.
Once the fractals are in Photoshop I play around with different colored backgrounds, and blending modes. I also draw alot of inspiration from the fractals themselves. For example with this wallpaper [link] I thought it looked alot like literal flames, so I colored it in photoshop accordingly (using mostly "color" and different "light" blending modes) and drew shapes to go along with the whole "chaotic fire" theme the piece was developing.

Wow. That's very helpful! I shall play with some of my fractals and see what I can do with them. Thanks.

So, what settings would you recommend for when I'm exporting my fractals from Apophysis? Like quality, etc.

I usually render mine as 3000x3000ish resolution, 8000 quality, 0.6 filter radius, and only 1 oversampling (my pc can't handle much more than that). Sometimes I'll bring it up to 12000 and 4000x4000, but that usually makes for unbearably long render times with this crappy, old pc lol. I've found that anything less than 6000 quality will leave too much noise for my liking though.

Awesome, I'll try that. I just did a new fractal last night that I want to play with later, so I'll re-render it while I'm gone today. Thanks, man!
