You have no idea how much this helped! Thanks ^_^. My skin is super simple and lame, but at least I feel like I look more like a girl now.

Oh god, making female skins are ridiculous. I wish Jeb or Dinnerbone would add a "chest" segment for skins. Then you could not have anime eyes and they could still look female-ish.
Anyways, I'm glad it helped.

I'm actually really happy with the results I got! I used paint, so its nothing fancy, no shading at all, but I think I look good. I brought the hair down around the ears and added "eyelashes"...I'll try to take a screen shot maybe at some point? Anywho, your tutorial was really helpful.

I usually don't bother with making females. I just have a male skin and confuse everyone since I am actually a girl. xD
Anyways,I'm glad it helped and that you're skin worked out.

So, without the hat, do you do the hat boxes? if no, do you just get rid of it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Twichl In reply to Xeroxie [2013-01-31 00:12:02 +0000 UTC]

Yes, just make it transparent.

My sister commented on wanting a couple of my characters as skins. I thought she was just dreaming and wishing she could have them, but lo and behold, I do a search and it looks like you CAN make custom skins!

I may just give this a try and give her those skins as a present. :3

It's really simple once you actually know what does what, but finding out is what takes forever.

Just use a program with layers and everything should go along smoothly.

There are a lot of videos on youtube that can help you out, in the past I've made a few basic reference tutorials pictures that may help you out. Which version of Photoshop do you have?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ewablueworms In reply to Twichl [2012-10-01 23:28:23 +0000 UTC]

version 0.0

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Twichl In reply to ewablueworms [2012-10-02 02:23:00 +0000 UTC]

I went on the adobe site, I didn't happen to see a version 0.0.
Minecraft skins are at least simple, just take the pencil tool. Get on a new layer and draw over the template with what you want it to look like. Follow the steps on the instructs and all should be good.

Ignore this if you aren't interested in tools or layers. (I just have a hard time not teaching someone about photoshop.)

Do you understand what the basic icons are?
They are universal amung many programs. [link]
Plus there may be more tools behind each icon, such as the Gradient tool can also be the Paint Bucket tool.

What about layers?
Layers are a transparent image set above the current canvas. Drawing on a layer will not affect any other layer or the canvas.
Here it is explained in depth -> (The next page button might be hard to see) [link]

Oh well, I feel like an ass.
GIMP is free and safe to download, and has all the same properties as Photoshop layers and all.

or you could use paint.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Twichl In reply to Eragon-vs-Murtagh [2013-04-12 00:52:43 +0000 UTC]

It needs to be a program that supports transparency (which is almost always a program that uses layers), which paint does not.

I made my own skin with another one of your templates, but I can't seem to get the hat option to work. I want just some single ears, and I have it drawn out on my skin, but they simply don't show up at all in-game. Do you know how to fix this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Twichl In reply to Maiyev [2012-05-23 02:01:22 +0000 UTC]

I'm really glad you like it so much.
Well the hat doesn't 'stand up', it just sort of shows on the side. It'd 2d and that stands about one pixel off of the head. So I'm sure your ears are there, but it's just more difficult to see.
