~~~Stand tall...
In the face of adversity...
And to your enemies...
Forever...
~~~
Shadow is now the official Darth Vader Dragon.
*wheezes*
He's also smaller. I think I should point that out.
On his ref he's hundred-some feet long and has a three-hundred foot wingspan.
Pfft.
He's now roughly the size of Toothless. Maybe a tad larger.
But he's still Shadow, and Saint still loves him very much. :3
But it's more realistic, too, anyways, and I've been thinking about it for a while. An animal that large would have to eat about 700,000 goats or camels to sustain himself, and then he'd die in the heat of Outremer because he'd use all of his food/energy reserves to fly and live and stuff so he wouldn't have any resources to cool himself and his enormous bulk would overheat. Also, there's no way he could buzz canyons and caravans and fjords at that side, I don't care. Yes, he does grow a bit from the first time Saint finds him, but not to those dimensions. (From like...ten feet long to fifteen feet long with a wider wingspan included in that package.
So yeah.
And now it's easier to draw him and Saint riding him 'cause now you can freakin' see Saint. In my pics where he's huge she's a dot. ._.
Imma have to revise some of my other dragons' refs, too. Just minor things like size issues. Like Rahal is way bigger than Ackart - Ackart's kinda like a BMW. u3u Rahal is longer. I also wanna make Azeeza a tad smaller, (she's actually perfect size in Desert Buddies,) and then make Rael smaller, too, since he's like, Brachiosaurus man over there, omg.
And Juban is bigger than Idracil. Just thought I'd point that out there.
So I'm not even gonna say sorry or give excuses for not checking my inbox. I think I'll change my name to Busy. I have stuff from a while ago in there, ('kay, it's not thaaat bad...) But I feel bad and I'm sick of saying 'Sorry guys! I'll get to it eventually!' 'cause no one knows when 'eventually' will be. Only Allah. And he's not telling me.
I feel like I should give a history/scientific lesson of some sort to make up for my absences...um...
How about a history lesson?
Have you ever heard of Iram of the Pillars?
It's referred to as the 'Atlantis of the Desert' because that's just what it is - a lost city in the Arabian Peninsula. Historically, though, it's called the 'City of One Thousand Pillars' due to its unique architectural incline to...pillars. :3
Iram/Aram/Irum/Irem/Arem/Erum/Wabar/Ubar/Webar/City of a Thousand Pillars/City of Pillars/City of the Lofty Pillars/etc...
Stories first started popping up about Iram - said to have lasted from 3000 BC to the first century AD. It is said to have become ridiculously rich due to the trade routes between the coastal cities and the few populations in the center of Arabia. For a long while it became lost to history...until the Holy Qu'ran made a reference to it, naming it Iram, literally 'a city of pillars.' However, historians dismissed this as old bedouin tales and deemed it nonexistent.
The city was lost to legends until the city of Ebla in Syria was found and excavated in Syria in 1973. The researches discovered ancient manuscripts hidden in the library, and lists of the populations which Ebla had traded with. On the list...was Iram...
They referenced the Qu'ran again, and found that it said that a King named Shaddad dismissed the warnings of the Prophet Hud (saw) and God attacked the city, sinking it into the heart of the desert, never to be seen again...
The ruins then laid in the Rub al-Khali, or the Empty Quarter, where no civilization resides due to the extreme conditions.
We as Westies know of Iram from the translation of 'The Book of One Thousand and One Nights.'
The city of Iram was lost...but science brought it from the realm of myth to the study of history as NASA and other remote sensing satellites and groups used ground-penetrating radar to find old camel-trading routes and their meeting places.
In the Dhofar province of Oman, a team of researchers scanned the area over a period of several trips, and they stoped at a well called Ash Shisar. Upon excavation, they discovered an older settlement littered with artifacts from far places. Deeper in the settlement, they found a large minestone cavern which supplied water, turning it into an instant oasis. The researchers found that as the people of the settlement used the water and the water table fell, the cavern became unstable. This happened between 300 and 500 BC, destroying the oasis and hiding the water.
Spoken of in the Qu'ran, the people of 'Ad are the descendents or 'successors' of Noah's people. After the excavations, the ancestral builders of Iram were traced to the 'Ad...
I read about Iram a few months ago and started getting into it. The Middle East has everything man... It has all started there, and it's all gonna end there. The Middle East has everything... Everything...
And I'm goin' there...
On that topic, my Arabic classes are going well. Intense...very intense...but well. I can read it pretty well already.
Aaaand, I just managed to make my comment box a million times longer, lololol... Oh, well, I love history and the Middle East... I love the history of the Middle East... You guys like my little fact-lesson-sessions... I love you guys... It's all good.
I love how I managed to ramble about all of this and completely forgot about my artwork. ;-;
I wanted to do some skinny linework and nice cell/soft shading - came out well. I liked the lighting the best...mmm...
Frontal headshot practice - 'cause we all need it. XD Juban and Idracil got the same treatment.
And the background/colours are remnisient of my dreams of Outremer... ._. <3
So yep.
Wanna talk more about history/the Middle East/anything else? You know how to Note me.
ENJOY!!!
Art/Char. (c) me.

I thought it looked more like a bird in the thumbnail..... Still looks like a bird even bigger, like a black hawk with milky yellow eyes.
Overall effect: cool!!!! Luv it!
