And well, not all redesigns turn out well - but not all of them turn out badly either, as you prove here! Back in EQG1, Sunset really was sadly one-note right up until the end, though with FG out, I love her as much as I love Twilight (I'm sorry, dearest Rarity, she shot right through my heart and I'm at her feet, helpless and delirious) - greatest turnaround I've seen in all senses of the word. And though you could have still kept her "the" Sunset, it would've probably needed a much bigger alteration, such as a time skip into the future or an EQG-verse redesign. So, I'm glad you went for a different option. And I still hope to keep that option around.
I know I would be taken by the Dazzlings' performance, though not to such an extent as some idol fanboys are. It's just their case that is special, after all. I would be taken by Adagio personally, as well. She's just too much for me to resist whenever she appears.
And yes, the fic is indeed dominated by the ladies - though I have no objections to that. It's just something I pointed out 'cause of all the girls I (and Starbright) have a liking of various intensities for either already being present or possibly joining in. I don't think we need to add in more males just because of the gender imbalance. And well, I did already introduce Flash Sentry and Big Mac in the search parties, so they help too.
And you'll level up more safely, because that thing would kill you in one hit and I would hate to lose the sweetest pirate I've ever seen.

Yep, I remember it now that we've brought it up. I liked Sunset's design and that she genuinely felt her redemption, but it was just so little to go by until this Sun rose in RR and melted my heart for her forever. Dear Sunset... dear Sunny.
And yep, that's inevitable if you make any alterations. It's rather interesting and sometimes funny to watch that process happen to fics made in the main ponyverse, which are heavily based on the state of the world as per the season they were written in (S1/2/3/4), and the new changes which the next introduces throw a wrench into their works. The more expansive world redesigns/future skips can be reduced to a mangled pile of scrap, tears and broken ego. Particularly when something is introduced in the main 'verse that makes the conflict of a fic completely irrelevant or trivial and solvable easily by what should've been present there, it being a "future", or introduces some major problem that the fic left unmentioned because it just didn't exist in public knowledge when it was written. After a while, such things normally just resign themselves to AU status. However, in your case, you went for it right from the start, so that's much better to deal with already. Though keeping it close to canon is quite an admirable thing you do, and I like you yet more for it.
Yep, that's exactly it. Knowing what idoling is like offstage, I can't like it one bit myself, but the Dazzlings are anything but that... if anything, they're the power, not the pawns. And seeing them offstage most of the time helps too, yes.

I think you've altered the shading there on the picture, haven't you? It feels a bit deeper to me, the parts on her legs and arms and under her chin and shade cap thing. I rather like how it looks now, I do. In fact, I really like it. Her legs look so very lusciously three-dimensional now.
And well, she can easily do that with her magic... but it would be a loss for her side, that she has to use force to brush aside a legitimate argument from a concerned person! A person who only wants to help her and do good for her!
As usual, you understand everything, sweet pirate~ But yes, it was wise of you to do that. However, that's not really the case with just Sunset and Sunny being different - after all, there's the Flutterbat thing. And the introductions from other franchises or just brand new ones.

Ooh, you didn't? Maybe I'm wrong, then. Maybe something changed in me instead. In any case, it somehow does. The shadows do feel a little deeper. You can still mess around with them, of course, but I'm just saying that this approach is viable too.
And yes, that's exactly what I'm planning on - to try and capture Sunny using Fluttershy's methods, ones she employed with Discord. There's no other way to change the mind of a stubborn and very powerful creature that would be reliable and effective enough in these situations. I just hope it will be possible.
I see what you mean with the main characters. Though, still, I guess it would still mean the main characters getting involved in some way - that's what makes the AU more interesting, when they get involved, like in the fic! Though it has to be said that involving side characters, not main ones, also helps similarly and runs less "canon breaking" risk. So people like the CMC are easier to work with.
And yes, it's best to go with the sort of interaction that doesn't change something too radically about the main characters - say, Flutterbat can still hide as a normal Fluttershy, so it doesn't break things much and can still be claimed to be "possible". But some permanent and unalterable change wouldn't. But you know all that already, that's the reason you're doing things the way you are, after all!
Yep, I guess it would be termed as such. After all, it’s certainly a relationship-adventure kind of story, and I doubt it’d be much different in this sense no matter what turns the fic or your AU might take. But again, I don’t mind it – after all, I’m a fan of FiM and its EqG satellite and their characters, which are predominantly female, and it’s them I want to see in there, so it kind of comes with the territory.
And sure, we could form a guild. Starting with a party would be best, though. That way you could level up much better!

Ah, yes, that's good then..! I like it when Fluttershy approach her "victim" and give a change of heart, instead of overpowering them using her stare..! But (heheh, see, you're dissing Sunny already..!) about Sunny, even if you try to overpower her.. say, by shooting a "friendship" beam or whatever destructive/purifying magic it is, she would just take the hit.. But, if you try to reason with her, she will try to reason with you as well.. then an agreement can be made..! It is possible..!
And, well, I'd still keep it minimum.. involving the main chars and changing things and such, that is..! Even if somehow they are involved, I'll try to make it trivial..! So yes, that's what I do.. that way, again, both my AU and canon storyline can 'live' together..!

Yes, that’s the plan. After all, I wouldn’t want to capture Sunny and force something onto her! And I wouldn’t be able to, anyway, nor would Starbright, she’s too powerful for that. I wouldn’t say I’m dissing Sunny, though – it’s just who she is, same as Applejack or, yes, Discord, her power shields her stubbornness and conviction/self-righteousness. It’s not something negative, it’s neutral, it can be negative if it’s “mishandled” or used for bad things or causes them collaterally. That said, I indeed intend to reason with her, hopefully after getting to know her well enough, and try to convince her, make an agreement of some sort. I’m happy it’s possible after all!
Yes, I understand and I agree. Trivial involvement by them is okay, yes, of the sort that wouldn’t be out of place in the movie’s background. And yep!
Hey, I suppose even FiM itself could be classified as seinen this way. After all, its protagonists are 20-something young and beautiful ladies who are very hard not to be interested in, and the majority of the other cast is likewise female, of all the colours of the rainbow, both personality-wise and body colour-wise! Does that make it unintentional seinen? To me, it kinda does.
As for what you should do, you should be a pirate! And we should get ourselves some sort of a tank. *brings in Rainbow Dash’s pet* Maybe he would do? Maybe he’s a teenage mutant turtle tortoise by now? I think he’d qualify as a tank then.

Look at the situation - we have normal, unpowered humans, we have the Humane 6 (now 7 and Spike) who have access to some wild Equestrian magic under special circumstances, and then we have Sunny, who can use magic almost freely and combine it with technology, or so it seems. She isn't overpowered, she just has superpowers where others don't or have very limited access to them. And yes, she's stubborn, and also feels like she's suffering from depressive disorders or something of the sort. Which only makes me feel for her more strongly. I'll try to do my best to make an agreement of some sort with her!

Heheheh, it's kind of funny. In 'merica!, it's taken as "a show for little girls!" exactly because it's full of young females who go about their lives, and yet the very same traits and features of it make it "a show for almost-adult and adult guys!" when looked at differently. I came into FiM with the latter optics on already, so it only proves the fact. Again, it's a rather culture-related thing, and I would argue that the "show for little girls!"-assigning culture is the near-sighted one here while the other approach fits much better.

I suppose I do~ I can even interpret it in different ways! I could see it as you referring to the picture we've been discussing, or to the girl I met who looks rather like Adagio (though, thankfully, doesn't have her personality)... Possibilities. In the first case, I wonder if you mean it in the sense of "what you wouldn't upload publicly".
Yep, I suppose Daydream Shimmer is more powerful than her - no matter how powerful Sunny is naturally, the "Elements" that Sunset invoked in the movie are definitely more powerful than one naturally powerful unicorn. Essentially, she could be seen as that - though she lacked the pony Twilight and her own immense magic, which is as powerful or more powerful than Sunny's, it still showed to be enough to counter the stolen magic in the amulet, even with the addition of the portal's magic, which is probably quite immense in power. Then again, it was also because human Twi flinched, but it only showed that she was still herself.
And yes, Sunny feels terribly depressed to me, personally... having dealt with a suicidal-depressive case among my close friends earlier (they've cut all contacts by now, but they seem to still be alive), and having been depressed for long enough myself (for human-Twi reasons), I admit that seeing how she is was the first reason I began to feel for Sunny. Seeing her depressed, hurt... I just can't take it, not without wishing to try to help her, somehow at least. Even though, in my experience, depressed people stayed depressed until some sort of undesirable outcome happened (such as institutionalization) or just indefinitely. So even trying to combat or alleviate it in any way makes me feel more hopeless, since it's a futile struggle and the depressed people only seem to wallow more in their depression when I try to find a way to help them. I only make it worse and end up making myself feel worse, both from completely wasted time and effort and from seeing them deteriorate. But hey, Starbright didn't have to deal with as much of this, so he'd probably still be eager enough to seek a way to help Sunny out of her depression.
That said, making lies reality is rather wrong, at least from the point of view of truth. 's another reason why Starbright would try to convince her to actually start her new life rather than hide in the shadows and deny herself.

I wouldn't say Japan has more genres, but it definitely has different views on the same setups. The 'merican (and by extension Canadian) approach to media is, as you very well know, that "boys fighting each other a lot and looking cool and one or a couple girls in a side role at most" is for boys, "men fighting each other a lot and looking cool and a clunky romance subplot with a chick" is for teens and adults, "girls doing life things, particularly in a "girly" way (focusing on clothes, looks and such) and occasional adventures" is for little and young girls, "girls having lots of social/relationship drama" is for female teens and up. It gets to a point where "boyish" shows with strong female leads get denied by networks because "they aren't appealing to boys because we're sure that boys don't want to see a strong girl, they want to be stronger than the girl in every way, men are dominant, period". (And that idea is utter bullshit, as I can personally attest that I've always adored girls with strong characters and personalities, as well as with actual body strength, on and off the screen, and enough people have confessed to sharing my view to understand it's more of a norm than an exception.) The base worldview of that take on media is basically "self-imaging as the protagonist" and fueled by inferiority complexes. Meanwhile, the manga and anime division is different, 'cause the view of what the target demographic is looking for is different. And as it so happens, the 'merican definition of "for little girls" happens to partially coincide with the definition for seinen, and if a given show or other work is not going all Strawberry Shortcake and has its characters old enough (particularly if, like in pony, they're 20-somethings) and at a high quality level, then it practically falls squarely into the seinen area. So, in the end, pony, with its very unchildish, strong characters and stories and the realism of portrayal of the characters, the feelings and the reactions, still attracts little and not-so-little girls, but also our small army of young and not-so-young males. There's also the oversight of the "traditional 'merican" look on things - male teens and young men aren't always all about fighting and basically being either Trixie or Rainbow Dash, and some of us are more awkward, shy or otherwise different from the bombastic and swashbuckling ideal image held in mind for the "standard", and there's a rather significant share of people like that - and through this, said demographic gains more appreciation of strong, relatable characters in general, and female ones included. They become role models and examples, as well as the friends we wish we had, and female characters in particular also become focus points for attachment and the development of what we are looking for in ladies.
And yes, anime and its relative series and season length is a different point entirely. However, I do have to say that FiM (as well as EqG) is definitely influenced quite strongly by manga and anime, particularly the kind that has multiple strong lead characters driving its stories, and, thank goodness, is running pretty long already, and, even more thankfully, shows no signs of stopping. So at least we can have that - and honestly, I don't really need much else.

Well, I wrote it "your Adagio" there, so of course I meant the girl you met.. ahahah..! The Adagio in the pic here is not yours, not even mine.. she belongs to Hasbro..! pffwahahaha..!
And, yes, talking about raw magic, Daydream Shimmer is of course more powerful than Sunny alone..! Sunny just uses her magic effectively and efficiently.. and with the aid of universe's life force, she could gain more, but that's another case..! And, yeah, nothing can be said about it anymore, so that's that, then..!
Now, I don't know if my interpretation of suicidal-depressive would be the same with yours but in Sunny's case here, it's not about her being depressed and end up wanting to kill herself.. she would've done it long ago and just be done with it, if it was..! Sunny has a plan here, and whatever the plan is, apparently it requires a transfer of her life essence and soul to Sunset.. And yet, she wouldn't give them just like that to Sunset..! For whatever reason, Sunny needs to prepare Sunset for it first.. otherwise, again, she would've done it long ago and be done with it already..! So, it's not really suicidal.. and it might not be the "right" thing either, but who said she would do what is "right" anyway..!

Anyway, yeah, I don't know much about it.. when I read what you described there, they sound like, in order, a shounen, a seinen, a josei, and a shoujo to me.. Well, I know nothing about North America and all the stuff that going on there, anyway..! maybe Japan is just more specific about their genre of anime and manga..!
Yep, again, too bad many anime only last two seasons.. even when it's slice of life, which can pretty much go on forever.. hahah..! And yes, cartoon series, like MLP:FiM or Spongebob Squarepants, have been going for quite some time and still on going..!

Mmm, I'd like that. I could see her doing it the way your Adagio up there did, too, seeing as she wears clothes that, while fashionable and normal, still don't expose any of her body and, in fact, hide most of her features aside from her face... though she's quite beautifully shapely under all that, from what I've observed. I like the way she dresses, it's kind of what'd happen if human Twi went for a Moondancer style of clothing but with a fashionable touch.
Universe life force? Are we Super Sentai now? But yes, I guess that's about it otherwise.
Yes, I know it's not about her killing herself out of depression... but she reminds me of me. Up until... well, fairly recently, about two years ago or so, I felt the same "martyr complex" as she does, that I could not find any good place in life that would afford me happiness and love, and that I would be better off trying to figure out a plan that would produce the greatest benefit for others without any regard for myself. I got over it, thankfully - and now it makes me feel more strongly for Sunny, and hope to try and dissuade her as well. I suppose this means trying to act first, before Sunset is "prepared". Which is likely to happen anyways, with how Starbright is, curious and very bent on figuring out what's really going on.

I'll confess that I'm hardly an expert on these matters myself - this is merely my understanding of the genre/type division as it's come to be. Though I'm trying to get a better understanding of these things. Technically the "genre conventions" dictate FiM would be in "another" style, but its peculiarities, such as twenty-something-years-old characters and fairly adult ways of handling things, change it. From what I understand, Japanese productions often stick closer to formula in style and elements in general, though.
And yes, it is. Though even slice-of-life things need some developments that could move things along, even if they're minimal - such as, say, seasons changing, or characters moving to another house. Though I hope FiM doesn't go the way of Spongebob, or Simpsons, or a few others, which lost what they were and became pale shadows of themselves in their modern versions. I want FiM to stay on its high horse in terms of quality and impressiveness!

She's a very reserved person in general, so I suppose it comes as part of the territory. Though I'm not sure if she knows fully about my affections, it does seem like she's noticed. Though a treasure is also not for locking away in a vault for all eternity either, particularly a living and breathing one... Which she handles well, as she doesn't actually remove herself from the world and interacts with people - she just doesn't dress provocatively or in a tacky way. It's kind of modest, fashionable attire. It has a beauty all of its own, particularly when worn by her, and I think she recognizes that.
But... wait a minute, did you just imply I would force myself upon a lady just like that? Come on, dear pirate, you offend me. I admit, I thought you would take simple text-words expressing "hugs" to you lighter than you actually did, so I was not as reserved in my interactions with you before, but please... if I actually tried that physically, first I wouldn't try that at all if she doesn't let me, second, I'd expect the girl to physically attack me, third, I'd expect anyone who might spot it intervene and beat me up, and fourth, I'd expect her and/or said possible other to call the police. If anything, I'm always at the mercy of the person I'm talking to/dealing with. I'm not some animal or some molester, I'm not after gratifying some sort of fleshy desire. I'm not like some people who seem to think with their underpants and act accordingly, it's my mind and heart that are in control. So please, don't think me to be something of the sort, or imply that I am.
Well, it may be present, or it may be not! It may be taken as life force - or it may be taken as a kind of pool or something like solar radiation, not as a force/aura produced by a "living universe". Many things are common in fantasy, and I really cannot expect anyone to believe this or that thing is "common" and to be expected by default. It's why I like filling in such key blanks, or leaving them uninvolved or completely unnamed/unexplored and just present as an undetailed unnamed thing, at least.
You don't have to be a victim of circumstances to have such a complex, though. If anything, complex or not, she seems to be very set on the idea of self-negation, writing herself completely out of the equation and sacrificing all of herself for others - and that's basically its description. And nah, I'm not interpreting her in some single way - I'm watching her and her actions and appearances, and trying to glean more of what she's really like - I'm never content with just sitting back with a sketch of how things are instead of finding out how they are for real. This would be Starbright's way too.
