It tends to be more trouble than it's worth. Cotton swabs long and strong enough to reach lethal depths without breaking are hard to explain having around. Office supplies though? Good quality pens are strong enough to pierce the carotid artery, screwdrivers can pierce weaker portions of the skull, and letter openers can be sharpened to the point that they function as well as real knives.
