well they are more for kids then adults (Not sure how old you are.)
I got the series about a year and a half ago to read to my daughter and I was amazed that the movie and book differ greatly. The only thing that matches are the names...although in the Book Astrid doesn't exist.
There are 8 in the whole series. How to be a Pirate...is part two. It takes place a month after the events of the first book. I can tell you as much as you like if you wish.

hmm... I'm an adult(27) that likes kid stuff. haha I LOVE Hayao Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle...but then I read the book and didn't like the book so much. uh...that...doesn't really have anything to do with what we're talking about. lol Is it worth reading?

Yeah he's a viking alright, but most vikings learn how to pillage by boat hence the pirate part. Hiccup also learns that he's a great sword fighter in this one too.
Oh I love Hayao Miyazaki. He's like the best anime director and creator that I have ever seen before. Besides Akira

Oh you know he had to have, as creative and handy in the forge as his movie version is. And for all the different scenerios he could have been thrown in, his basic every day, a more active piece with cleets for grip, etc...
