Description An updated image even if a doodle of sorts.. I really did want to update that old image of mine and having to remake and redo this image all up. I'm going to simply copy and paste the old description as I think it fits perfectly. I'm not sure if the notes will ever be updated... Although I definitely wanted to update and remake the image.

-Copy and Paste starts Here-

I will say Zerodius did tons and tons of the writing for this and if not helped me out 100% in writing and basically came up with a lot of it if not all of it- so I wanted to say she helped me out and helped fill that large gap in the puzzle, for that I want to thank her for this immensely really- so all praise really should go to her- I cannot thank her enough for helping me put the last pieces in puzzle in place and why it scientifically makes sense on why Pikmin have genders- without further ado- I present PiK's notes on it.. I will also say this is a Pikmin AU furthermore, so it doesn't completely apply to the games. I wanted to give a reason why the way they look when I draw them. This being the full reason behind it.. Now I finally present to you the logic and even reasoning behind this:

"I am forced to admit that I am writing this with a red face. It's totally because of my Pikmin color type, not because I'm immature or anything, really! Regarding the subject of this entry... well, hmmmmm, err... how do I say this... Gather round ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to tell you about Pikmin genders! That totally didn't sound stupid! A certain somebody should stop poking me and winking while I'm writing or it will cause me to make a mIIIISTRK. Great. Look at the typo, now! Erase and redo? I'll immortalize what you made me do to my poor report!

Anyway, let's get down to business. No, not that kind of business. Stop looking at me like that. I thought at first that if Pikmin did have genders that they'd have a large amount of them, based off the possible configurations of their flowers. It seems that I was in error. In fact, it seems I completely misinterpreted the function of Pikmin flowers at all. No, it's not because my leaf won't grow into a flower due to me damaging it all the time. Stop laughing!

Now, it turn out that Pikmin flowers are actually much more simple than I thought, having two primary configurations. Namely, one has a disproportionate number of stamens and a pistil so small and simplistic that it's almost certainly sterile. In fact, it's sterile. The other configuration has so few stamens that they might as well not be there and even then, they produce little to any pollen at all. The pistil however, is absolutely impressive to behold. Yes, yes! I will point out the detail! Be patient, sheesh! No, I'm not trying to buy time! Okay, here goes. The male-centric flower configuration match masculine body shapes while the female configuration match up with Pikmin with a feminine body type. Happy now? No?! Oh geez! Fine! I'll talk about it.

Looking at the flowers, it turn out that they actually are dormant most of the time, actually acting more like tougher, more efficient versions of a younger Pikmin's leaf than a traditional flower. This seems linked to the function of the leaves, which I won't detail here. But reproduction actually seems to be a secondary concern. Not that surprising actually, as the flower is directly connected to a Pikmin's cerebral system, including its brains and spine. Usually, the flower feeds the brains and spine with extra energy from photosynthesis and oxygen, supplementing what they get from their lungs and digestive system.

Namely, a flower that fulfill its intended function will prove to be extremely energy intensive. As in, to such a level that even plants, that do not move and thus don't use energy for much else, can only hold flowers for a certain time of the year. Even then, a plant that need to regenerate its flower repeatedly might drain itself to death very easily. Pikmin, being half-animals and thus mobile, don't have the energy to keep properly fertile, hermaphrodite flowers at all time. The flower thus act as a salvage system, helping alleviating the low lifespan of the Pikmin species ; when survival cease to be a concern, the flower will draw energy from the Pikmin and fulfill its intended function. It's why new sprouts can be found at spots where flower-bearing Pikmin were slain but why otherwise, pikmin flowers seem decorative.

What? I'm trying to avoid it? What are you talking about? Stop laughing! I'm not going to talk about the scornets and the snagrets, not in a serious scientific report! Forget about it! Why would I even bring it up? No, you shown me enough!... look at what you made me type! NO! MY FACE IS NOT EVEN MORE RED THAN USUAL! Gah! Slipped and hit the all-caps key by mistake! Yes, it was by mistake! Stop laughing!

The primary natural reproductive system of Pikmin is the animal way, gendered reproduction. There, I wrote it. I'm ending this entry. AND STOP LAUGHING! Stupid all-caps."

FURTHER NOTES

"Well, turn out, the differences are actually kind of obvious when you are not TOTALLY OBLIVIOUS to them. Though, in my defense, I'd like to say that I was an alien, with an alien mindset, and thus wasn't looking for such differences. I'd also like to add that being half-plant, you'd expect Pikmin to rely on the plant method far more.

Anyway, whining aside, it appears that Pikmin are far closer to animals than to plants, especially considering other half-plant creatures all over PNF-404. This shouldn't have surprised me as much as it did but well, it did. So! It turn out, when you aren't towering over them and thus are able to look at their body types more carefully, that males and females have obvious differences. More exactly, that they follow the mammalian model. I was baffled as to why they did and why the result was so anthropomorphic when one really analyse it but it turn out that it's all adaptation.

Given that Pikmin are preyed upon by everything under the sun, building a permanent garden is just as impractical as the idea of forming a hive. As such, carrying their young on the move is only logical. Their flower, while functional in a pinch, is actually more like an extra pair of lungs than anything else. In fact, it even explain why they can run all day without getting tired and without resting.

Oh, yeah. Gender differences.

I noticed that Pikmin females are different from most females, with a natural tendency toward... generous... curves. It turn out, this is because of the energy they need for their young, which is a lot, especially given numbers. Only a single pair of mammaries because more would hinder them while moving. Why large ones? Pikmin breed in prodigious numbers to compensate for casualties.

It's just... so odd."

I love how you made their bodies different subtly but just enough to show their gender. It's a detail I could use to help differentiate my male characters like Loyd from my female character Anastasia (and maybe others if I decide to come up with more)
