Thanks
Yep since around 2007 I realized just how much better pencils were than felt tips and have barely touched felt tips since.
Such a shame I don't have this drawing any more - I used to take photos (obviously) then updated everything with proper scans one day... unfortunately this is one of only two or three I couldn't scan; it would look so much better if it was.
I love this car too, and have done another one since - though in a less serious style (which may appeal to you, then), called the Ramborghini which is also on here somewhere...

Yeah I went looking for and had a good laugh with the Ramborghini. Pretty funny. So what are your fav coloring pencil brands?

Hey,
Favourite colouring pencils ? That's a good one... It's taken me about 8 years to politely get the message through to family and friends that I really, really don't need any more art stuff... some of what I have is still what I remember using as a toddler, believe it or not. Since I've got so much of everything, I'm just going through what's been building up over the years; and instead of buying more materials and tools to see what gives a better appearances, I'm trying to slowly improve the techniques I use with the same ones instead. I wouldn't recommend my pencils as a lot of them are the kind that aren't best for 'proper' drawing and where the lead breaks every 10 seconds - though a friend gave me a set of Bic Kids Evolution colouring pencils which have been very good - the leads just don't break, and they take forever to wear away. They colour quite smoothly onto the paper, too - the only thing they're not the best for is combining different colours in top of each other.
I've been fiddling around with pens a lot too... I don't use ballpoints for this kind of thing; and it's taken ages to find a decent drawing pencil. A lot of gel/liquid roller pens, even with a fine tip, end up with the ink coming out fairly thickly and running all over the place, getting absorbed by the paper and smudged everywhere... I eventually found what was called a 'felt tip' pen (nothing like the ones you use for colouring) with a tip just the right thickness, ink comes out nice and smoothly, yet dries instantly, doesn't smudge and doesn't absorb and run everywhere in the paper.
I used that for a couple of years then the shop stopped selling them ... My last one feels like it's going to run out any day now, so I'd better start looking around for a good replacement again....

Yeah, I use similar pens, mine are named micron and I use sizes .005 - .5, depending on the size of the piece I'm doing. Sounds like their the exact same type ones your talking about.
As far as colored pencils, I can't suggest enough, Prismacolor Premiers and Prismacolor Verithins. The Premiers have a very similar consistency of a harder crayon, but not too hard. The Verithins are the hard ones, similar to a no. 2 pencil. (not too sure what you guys have down there) I mainly use the Verithins as a base coat and then lay down the premiers on top of that. That's how I achieve that vibrant, filled in look as I do. I more or less, use the colorless blender, they supply too, to do all my major color blends. It's like a smudge pencil, but with really good control. It can even almost lift up colored pencil mistakes, since it is the hardest of them all. It doesn't fully lift them up, but good enough to work over the site, without a wrong color or whatever. Here in the states, they run about $1.25 a pencil, for the premiers. I know its a lil high, but they are so worth it. 2 Christmas' back, I got myself a gift of their biggest set, 120 pencils. With all the sales at the time, plus my wife knew one of the cashiers, it ended up only being $75.00 (normally $120)
I do know you can order them online, not sure if they go to Aussie, but I'm sure they would. Just look up Prismacolors.
Well, man I gotta bolt, but if you wanna keep slinging the BS, just send me a note. I'm trying to make it a habit to come here more often. So, it shouldn't be like this last time.
